January 22, 2008

United States Coast Guard Commandant Thad W. Allen stopped in Stonington, Connecticut on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 to meet Anne Brengle, the new president of the Coast Guard Foundation (CGF), and spend time with the Foundation staff at their headquarters. Ms. Brengle and her team discussed plans for the Foundation’s work to support the men and women of the United States Coast Guard and the Coast Guard Academy. “It was a tremendous honor for all of us at the Foundation to have Admiral Allen here, and a tremendous way to start the year,” said Brengle, who officially assumed her position as CGF president the first week of January. During his visit Admiral Allen spoke of all the Foundation’s critical initiatives, characterizing them as “rescuing the rescuers.” Ms. Brengle was hired by the Foundation’s Board of Directors with the specific charge of growing its fund raising capacity and dramatically raising public awareness of the Foundation’s mission and vision for the future. She has considerable experience with such challenges, having served for many years as president of the Whaling Museum in New Bedford, Massachusetts and dramatically increasing the museum’s profile and endowment. www.cgfdn.org.
