Davie Inks Two Ship Repair Contracts

Chantier Davie Canada Inc. announced the signing of two new contracts, one with CSL Group and the other with the Canadian Coast Guard.

Davie’s contract with CSL Group will see CSL Group’s MV Baie St. Paul arrive in the shipyard in January for a period of six weeks to perform repair and maintenance activities.

The Canadian Coast Guard awarded Davies the contract for the vessel CCGS Des Groseilliers, carried out with the cooperation of Babcock Canada Inc. and involving the completion of Phase 1 of the life extension of this Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker. The CCGS Des Groseilliers is a 1200 Class medium icebreaker measuring 98 meters long. The vessel is already alongside at Davie and work will begin on November 1 for a period of three and a half months.

Alan Bowen, Davie’s CEO, said, “These two contract awards are a testament to the high quality works carried out here at Davie. It is an important step for our shipyard that adds to the accomplishments of the last few months. Using our multiple dry dock facility for ship repair is a core business stream for us. Operating Canada’s largest docking and repair facility means we can meet the needs of our clients’ diverse docking requirements. We are very proud of the work accomplished by our teams and are convinced that our proven know-how and professionalism will once again be demonstrated during these works.”

The Hon. Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and MP for Lévis, Bellechasse and Les Etchemins, was present at the shipyard today and added, “I am proud to see that our region will benefit from investments related to the renewal of the Canadian Coast Guard fleet.
