Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

May 10, 2006

A passenger ferry that crashed into a pier at bustling Fisherman's Wharf on May 6 headed for U.S. Navy shipyard on May 7, as investigators look into what caused the accident. Nine injured passengers have been treated for minor injuries and released. The U-S Coast Guard said it has completed an initial examination of the Vallejo-bound ferry that plowed into Pier 43. The cause of the crash has not been determined, but fire officials initially said the boat experienced mechanical problems. The Coast Guard also said investigators were awaiting the results of routine drug and alcohol tests performed on the captain and crewmembers. The captain was not cited by the Coast Guard.
