Damen is to construct a new ASD 3212 tug for Scafi, the Italian shipping group that includes a number of international towing companies. The contract cements their already strong business relationship that goes back 20 years and represents the first Damen ASD 3212 for Italian waters.

This is the 15th contract between Scafi and Damen. “We are delighted to work again with a respectable Italian owner such as Scafi,” commented Damen Sales Director North West and South Europe Frank de Lange. “This contract extends a durable and happy business relationship.”

Scafi ordered the new 32-meter state-of-the-art ASD 3212 tug as part of its program of continuous fleet renewal and improvement of quality.

“The Damen ASD 3212 is a multi-tasking tug designed to the smallest details using the best of Damen shipbuilding knowledge and valuable input from several clients,” explains Damen Regional Sales Manager Andrea Trevisan. “Scafi’s new tug will have a bollard pull exceeding 80 metric tons, fulfilling the Italian Flag requirements with notations such a Fire Fighting 1, escort, oil product salvage and oil recovery tug.”

Construction will take place at Damen’s Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam. “The delivery time was certainly an added value as the vessel will be ready in August reflecting Damen’s philosophy of building most of our tugs on stock,” De Lange concluded.

Damen said the new ASD 3212 tug has been designed to operate in all circumstances and features numerous innovations, including a completely revised hull form and a higher bow, resulting in better speed and a dry foredeck. Since its introduction in 2012, several Damen ASD 3212s are serving worldwide and owners.
