1945 - First two Navy flight nurses land on an active battlefield (Iwo Jima): Nurse (with relative rank of Ensign) Jane Kendeigh, USNR, and Chief Nurse (with relative rank of Lieutenant j.g.) Emily G. Purvis, USN
