WESMAR, a U.S. manufacturer of sonar equipment has announced that they are completing multiple site installations of WESMAR WEB850 searchlight sonar systems at undisclosed sites in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region to protect private and publicly held assets.

The systems are for surveillance and waterside security and while they join other WESMAR systems in the region, they are the first of many to be installed jointly with WESMAR’s GCC partnership companies.

The WESMAR system is used to protect vessels, harbors, oil facilities, land-based and other valued assets by providing long range detection in shallow-harbor water, where omni sonar has difficulty seeing close in. The WESMAR WEB’s advanced sonar technology detects swimmers, underwater terrorists, and submersible intrusion vehicles using active sonar, arrayed in configurations specifically designed to create a barrier (WEB) up to 9,000 feet from shore, using up to ten sensors, and expandable beyond that as needed. It provides immediate detection and alert of diver and other movement underwater 24/7.

“The inclusion of electronic stabilization allows the WESMAR sonar to be installed with a system-supplied buoy and anchor system instead of an underwater platform. The WESMAR buoy and anchor system provides the advantage of rapid deployment and portability, and eliminates added installation and maintenance expense plus the risks of tilt, settling and corrosion, common to most swimmer detection systems,” says Chris Choich, WESMAR Senior Defense Manager.

WESMAR is well known for their sonar systems, which currently protect vessels, port areas and vulnerable waterside installations. The company has been actively involved in installations around the world where the threat to private companies, municipalities, and public and private citizens remains heightened. The company draws on its 47 years of sonar design and manufacture for the marine industry, where thousands upon thousands of commercial, private and government vessel owners and operators in countries across the globe, know the WESMAR brand means highly advanced underwater detection.
