Northrop Grumman Corporation has received orders to supply integrated bridge systems for five new roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vehicle carriers being built for Grimaldi Group Naples by Croatian Shipbuilding Corporation at its Uljanik shipyard in Pula, Croatia.

The ships will be fitted with a complete suite of navigation and communication systems to be supplied by Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit in conjunction with Compania Generale Telemar. The navigation systems to be installed on the five new ro-ro ships will be based on Sperry Marine’s new-generation VisionMaster FT technology, which was unveiled at the 2006 SMM Exhibition in Hamburg.

The five multi-purpose deepsea ro-ro carriers, with 2,500 lane meters of cargo space, will be used primarily for transporting new cars and vehicles, with additional container capacity on the weather deck. They are scheduled for delivery in 2008-2009. Grimaldi operates one of the world’s largest fleets of modern ro-ro vessels, mostly serving Europe, West Africa and South America. The company is also expanding its marine terminal business with major new facilities around the world.
