INTERSCHALT maritime systems AG, a maritime software and services provider of loading computers on board containerships, signed a cooperation agreement with the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) in Shanghai for the provision of MACS3 loading software for containerships, bulk carriers and tankers built in Chinese shipyards using SDARI designs.

MACS3 provides INTERSCHALT with an approx. 65% market share of the approx. 6,000 container ships currently in existence worldwide. The cooperation agreement with SDARI will allow the software provider to strengthen its market presence in the loading computer sector for container ships and expand it to include bulk carriers and tankers. In addition to common BELCO container ship modules, INTERSCHALT also undertakes to provide ship type-specific loading modules for bulk carriers and tankers.

SDARI, a Chinese ship designer, is now in a position to add loading software to its range of products and services offered to Chinese shipyards. Given that the loading condition affects a ship's draft and trim, loading software which also calculates trim-optimized loading conditions and more will tangibly contribute to improving a ship's energy efficiency.

For INTERSCHALT, the cooperation agreement with the ship designer represents an opportunity to improve and further develop contacts with Chinese shipyards. Since 2007, INTERSCHALT has stepped up its focus on developing maritime software in the fields of cargo operation and fleet performance. Other business areas include NavCom services and the manufacture of Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) systems.
