Jiangnan Shipyard to Make Way for Expo

Jiangnan Shipyard will soon complete its move from Shanghai and the Huangpu River to its new location on Changxing Island in the Yangtze to make way for construction work for the World Expoa, reports East Day.

Work began yesterday to transform the former shipbuilding yard with exhibition buildings and public activity venues for the World Expo. An official with Jiangnan Shipyard said the company will cooperate with the Expo project to help it overcome all difficulties. The company will speed up construction work on its new site on Changxing Island, which is expected to become the biggest shipyard in China. A production line of the new plant went into operation on September 26, 2006, and is expected to complete its first ship in 2008.
