Chelsea Logistics Buys Two Vessels

Philippine-based Chelsea Logistics Holdings (CLC), wholly owned subsidiary of Udenna Corporation, added two new ships to the company’s existing fleet of 83 as part of its expansion program.CLC  inaugurated the M/T Chelsea Providence and M/V Salve Regina at the Manila North Harbour Port, the two vessels that CLC bought with  an investment worth around $50 million.Manila Standard quoted CLC founder and chairman Dennis Uy as saying that his company has  long dreamed of having its presence felt in the international waters and to commence its  foray into the regional liquid carrier market.M/T Chelsea Providence is its biggest registered vessel yet…

New Catamaran Ferry for South Korea Launched

A newly built 50-meter high-speed catamaran passenger ferry for Seaspovill of South Korea, SeaStar 11, has been launched at Austal Limited’s shipyard in the Philippines. Austal said it was awarded the A$16 million (US$12.1 million) contract to build the Incat Crowther designed catamaran in June 2016, following Seaspovill’s satisfaction with a pre-owned Austal vessel, Seastar 3, constructed in 1998. Incat Crowther said it worked with Seaspovill to develop the design of the vessel, offering improvements over an off-the-shelf production design.

A second 30-meter high-speed passenger ferry for the 2Go Group, MV Saint Sariel, has been delivered in the Philippines, shipbuilder Austal Limited announced. Austal was awarded a A$13 million contract for two Incat Crowther designed catamarans in June 2016 and construction of both vessels has been completed at the Austal Philippines shipyard in Balamban, Cebu. Austal Bags Contracts for Three Passenger Ferries

Austal Limited announced securing two new contracts for three commercial passenger ferries with a total value of approximately AU$30million. Firstly, Austal has been awarded a contract for the construction of a 50 meter high speed passenger catamaran for Seaspovill Co. Ltd, which operates a number of high speed ferries on multiple domestic routes in South Korea. With a contract value of approximately AU$16million, Austal will construct the catamaran to an Incat Crowther design that has capacity to carry up to 450 passengers, at speeds of up to 40 knots. As many South Korean passenger ferry operators seek proven international shipbuilders to help deliver a generational update of the country’s passenger ferry fleets…

2GO Mulls 25% Hike in its Revenue

2GO Group, Inc. plans to boost profit by a quarter this year amid a sanguine outlook on its logistics, distribution, and express courier businesses, a company official said. The company has set a P1.1-billion ($0.04billion) net income target this year, 25% up from P880 million last year, 2GO President and Chief Executive Officer Sulficio O. Tagud, Jr. said. 2GO has successfully transitioned from a predominantly shipping and transport company to a full-service logistics and supply chain solutions provider. The company has a fleet of interisland ferries and cargo ships of the former Aboitiz Transport System. In December 2010, major stockholders of the company, namely Aboitiz Equity Ventures and Aboitiz and Company Inc. sold their shares to Negros Navigation, Inc. (Nenaco).

The collision occurred in the vicinity of Lawis Ledge, off the island of Cebu between 'MV Sulpico Express 7', a cargo ship bound for Davao City, and 'MV St. Thomas Aquinas', a RoR passenger ferry out of Butuan bound for Cebu City. The ferry, with 841persons on board sank and at the latest count Monday, 19, August 0845 LMT, 750 passengers had been rescued, there were 42 casualties, and 78 persons were missing.
