Lloyd’s Register (LR) has been awarded a contract from BAE Systems Maritime Australia (BAESMA) for Naval Classification New Construction Services for the first three Royal Australian Navy Hunter class frigates. Containership Strikes Tall Ship at Berth in Australia

The ramping up of shipbuilding programs in Adelaide this year is providing an employment lifeline for South Australia as the state’s looks for ways to tackle boost jobs growth post coronavirus.There are already almost 700 people working on the Hunter Class Frigate Program. BAE Systems, Flinders University to Train Shipbuilding Workforce

A new agreement between BAE Systems Australia and Flinders University will see students and industry working together to develop new ways to provide Australia’s defence force with the evolving capability it needs and train the shipbuilding workforce of the future. BAE Systems is one of three companies bidding to build nine Anti-Submarine Warships for the Royal Australian Navy. The company is proposing an Australian variant of the Global Combat Ship currently being manufactured in the UK for the Royal Navy. A combined Defence and industry team has won the International Association of Contract and Commercial Management Innovation Award for Operational Improvement. ANZAC Class Frigate Sustainment Deal Signed

The Turnbull Government has signed a long-term contract for the sustainment of ANZAC Class Frigates centred in Western Australia. The strategic partnership between BAE Systems Australia Defence Pty Limited, Saab Australia Pty Ltd, Naval Ship Management Australia Pty Ltd (a joint venture between UGL and Babcock), and the Commonwealth will streamline a number of existing contracts for the whole-of-life sustainment for the ANZAC Class Frigates. BAE Systems Australia Invests in SSI Software

Australian defense contractor BAE Systems Australia has recently made an investment in a broad range of SSI software and services. BAE has purchased new ShipConstructor software seats and Subscriptions while also investing in software license rentals under SSI’s flexible pay as you go model. Included as part of BAE’s investment were upgrades to its SSI ShipConstructor Workshare software to allow the company to distribute CAD/CAM work across multiple locations. BAE will also be implementing SSI’s innovative information sharing application called EnterprisePlatform PublisherLT which will allow BAE to streamline its engineering processes. BAE realized that to maximize the value of its software, proper staff training was essential.

Australia’s first Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) ship, NUSHIP Canberra has been farewelled from Melbourne as she departs for Sydney. NUSHIP Canberra departed BAE Systems Williamstown shipyard en route to her Sydney homeport. Australia, US Order Anti-ship Missile Decoys

Design of the next generation of anti-ship missile decoys is set to commence following the signing of two contracts between the Australian Defense Force and BAE Systems Australia Pty Ltd. Defense Materiel Organization Chief Executive Officer Warren King said the contracts represented continued investment in the jointly developed Australian—United States Nulka capability. “These contracts support both the acquisition of Nulka decoys and the engineering design of the next generation of shipboard Nulka launch systems for the Royal Australian Navy,” he said.
