UK-based Harland & Wolff Group said Tuesday that its recently opened Miami-based office had been awarded its first contract for circa $1.5 million.Under the contract, the company will support TampaShip - part of the Edison Chouest Group, based in Tampa, Florida - in the completion of the construction of a floating dock for the Bollinger shipyard facility in the Gulf of Mexico.Fabrication work has started and is expected to be completed within the next three months."The company is very active in building its pipeline of opportunities in the USA.

Bollinger Shipyards on Monday announced it will construct a new pontoon launcher for General Dynamics Electric Boat to support the construction and launching of the U.S. Navy’s Columbia Class Ballistic Missile Submarines.The concept and contract design for the 496- by 95-foot pontoon launcher was performed by the Bristol Harbor Group in Rhode Island. Bollinger Quick Repair, LLC, a Bollinger Shipyards LLC company, has taken delivery of a new 3,400 ton dry-dock.Built at Bollinger Shipyard’s Amelia, La. facility, the dock is now in service and measures 219’7” X 84’, with a wing wall depth of 15’, and is rated for 3,400 tons, said Bollinger President & CEO, Ben Bordelon.The dry-dock is named in honor of long-time Bollinger employee Eddie Barnes, Jr., who joined Bollinger Shipyards on June 29, 1972 and during his tenure with the company has held various key production positions such as Dockmaster, Foreman and Superintendent.

Bouchard Transportation Co. announced the delivery of ATB unit M/V Evening Breeze and Barge No. 252 (B. No. 252), respectively, from VT Halter Marine Inc. (VT Halter Marine) and Bollinger Shipyards.M/V Evening Breeze left VT Halter Marine’s Pascagoula Shipyard facility on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, and will meet and pair up with B. No. 252 before sailing to join Bouchard’s fleet service in New York.The Evening Breeze is 4,000hp meeting U.S. EPA-Tier 4 requirements, measuring 112 feet by 35 feet by 17 feet, and equipped with an Intercon Coupler System.

Louisiana-based inland workboat operator Alexis Marine has awarded a supply contract to Thordon Bearings for the retrofitting of 6in diameter RiverTough bearings to MV Kristin Alexis, the 60ft twin-screw towboat built by Bollinger Shipyard in 1969.Both the vessel’s shafts will be withdrawn at New Orleans yard Bayou Fabricators and Machine Works, where the original rubber bearings will be replaced with Thordon’s RiverTough tailshaft bearings.The polymer bearing manufacturer will…

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. headquartered in Lockport, La., inform of the upcoming retirement of its Vice President Repair, Eastern Division, Dave Marmillion, after 46 years in the shipyard industry. Marmillion’s retirement was announced by Bollinger’s Chief Operating Officer, Ben Bordelon, who said, “Dave has been an integral part of Bollinger’s growth and a mentor to many in the shipyard industry over the past 46 years. Marmillion started his shipyard career as a lifelong resident of the New Orleans Westbank area. He attended West Jefferson High School and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, Louisiana in Industrial Technology.

Established in 1928 by George Lyon Sr, Lyon Shipyard today occupies 30 acres of waterfront near downtown Norfolk Virginia. Norfolk Tug is based in the same area and takes pride in operating a fleet of tugs from the 1970s and ‘80s that they proudly designate as “vintage steel”. They also have an aggressive program of updating these beauties with extensive upgrades, including new engines, generators, wiring, shaft seals as well as piping and wiring renewal wherever necessary. One of their vessels, the 92 X 26 X 11 Captain D, was taken into Lyons Shipyard for an extensive rebuild in 2008.

Isemann Brings a Unique Blend of Shipyard and Administrative Experience to the Team. Jensen Maritime, Crowley Maritime Corporation’s naval architecture and marine engineering firm, recently hired Ray Isemann to serve as senior sales account executive in its Seattle office. In his new role, Isemann will be responsible for growing Jensen’s business in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, the U.S. East Coast and along the Mississippi River. Crowley Maritime Corporation christen 'Ocean Wave' & 'Ocean Wind' built at Bollinger Shipyards, based in Amelia, La. USA. The new tugboats were designed by Crowley subsidiary Jensen Maritime located in New Orleans. At 146 and 156 feet in length, and with a minimum bollard pull of 150 metric tons, Crowley’s new ocean class tugs will be outfitted for long-range, high-capacity ocean towing, rig moves, platform and floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit tows, emergency response and firefighting.

St. Petersburg Event To Honor New Coast Guard Cutter And The Memory of William Flores. The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education, welfare and morale of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced today its 19th Annual Tribute to the United States Coast Guard’s Seventh District will take place on Friday, November 2, 2012. At this year’s event, the Foundation has partnered with the Commissioning Committee for the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter William Flores.

Coastal Marine Equipment is continuing its success in supplying marine deck equipment for government and military projects with the latest being equipment for Austal USA’s Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) program. This is in conjunction with Austals’ Joint High Speed Vessels (JHSV) program and Bollinger Shipyard’s Fast Response Cutters (FRC) program which are propelling Coastal Marine to be the leading deck equipment manufacturer for our military. In addition with these multi vessel contracts, Coastal Marine is supplying equipment for the NOAA Fisheries Survey Vessel (FSV) and Alaska Region Research Vessel (ARRV) being constructed at Marinette Marine, T-AGS 66 Oceanographic Survey Ship and TAGM-25 Missile Range Instrumentation Ship being constructed by VT Halter Marine.

1914-Pursuant to the Convention for Safety at Sea in London, President Woodrow Wilson directed that the Revenue Cutter Service undertake the task of manning the International Ice Patrol. Henceforth, the Revenue Cutter Service and then the Coast Guard, with brief respites during both World Wars, served in this capacity. 1942- Presidential order created the War Shipping Administration which assumed control over all phases of merchant marine activities. 1943-During a fierce convoy battle near Greenland, USS Ingham, CG, rescued 33 survivors from the torpedoed troopship SS Henry Mallory while USS Bibb, CG, rescued 202. Bibb then rescued 33 from the torpedoed SS Kalliopi.

In April Bollinger Shipyard delivered the first of their 234-ft class of Cummins-powered Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) to Bee Mar Inc. The shipyard started building this series of vessels in 2008 and delivered the first in the series to the newly formed Bee Mar LLC in June of 2009. The Bee Mar newbuild fleet will consist of five 210-ft and three 234-ft American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) classed DP‐2 PSV's. Each vessel has high cargo carrying capacities and meets or exceeds the customer requirements and demands for offshore marine support applications.

A series of fast response cutters being built for the U.S. Coast Guard will be protected against hull corrosion and marine pipework bio-fouling with a system manufactured by Cathelco Ltd. The Sentinel Class cutters, measuring 154 ft in length and capable of speeds of more than 28 knots, are being constructed at the Bollinger Shipyard’s facility in Lockport, La. The order for the Cathelco equipment has been won by Russ Equipment Co. Inc., Cathelco’s agent based in New Orleans.

The Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur reopened the Intracoastal Waterway after the towing vessel Caroline was refloated Monday. The waterway was closed following a collision between the towing vessel Caroline and the towing vessel Miss Stacie at mile marker 312 on the Intracoastal Waterway early this morning. No injuries were sustained during the collision. A Unified Command comprised of Canal Barge Company, Texas General Land Office, Oil Mop and the Coast Guard was established to respond to the incident. A minimal amount of oil was released from the Caroline and was cleaned up by Oil Mop. The Caroline was re-floated at 11:10 and was then towed to Bollinger Shipyard in Lake Charles, La., for repairs. The Caroline’s barges were transported to Houston by the towing vessel Coushatta.

Ocean Tug & Barge Engineering Corp. has completed the engineering of an AT/B conversion for Reinauer Transportation of Staten Island, N.Y., the third such AT/B conversion engineered by the Milford, Mass. firm for Reinauer with a fourth currently underway. The converted AT/B tug Craig Eric Reinauer was recently delivered by Senesco Marine of North Kingstown, R.I., to Reinauer Transportation. The 4610 BHP tug received an Intercon connection system  at the Rhode Island shipyard.

Lockport, La., Bollinger Gretna, L.L.C. of Harvey, La., a Bollinger shipyard, has delivered B. No. 284, a double hull 80,000 bbl oil tank barge built to meet the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA’90) to Bouchard Ocean Services, Melville, N.Y. Barge B. No. 284 is a manned ocean, clean oil tank barge measuring 399-ft, 11-inches long, with a 74-ft beam and a depth of 28-ft, 6-inches. The barge is built to, and certified by, American Bureau of Shipping and United States Coast Guard to meet the requirements of OPA’90 with 12 cargo compartments and three separate pumping systems.

In late October, Bollinger Shipyard announced they had sold two 193-foot offshore-supply vessels to Odyssea Marine. The first boat, Odyssea Champion, has already gone to work with the second boat, Odyssea Defender, to be delivered in December. In accordance with the original plan the boats were sold to the successful bidder after the completion of the first vessel. This was Bollingers way of dealing with the prices of materials that were still escalating at an unpredictable rate making effective advance bidding virtually impossible. Specifics of the contract terms and conditions were not made available. The DP1 Gulf of Mexico-class boats, one of two designs that Bollinger has under construction, have a 40 ft beam and 15 ft molded depth on their 193 ft length.

The boat was immediately taken out of service and sent to the Bollinger Shipyard in for repairs. When the boat was taken out of the water, crews discovered additional damage to the propeller and propeller’s shaft, extending the time necessary to repair the vessel and return it to service.

With steel prices jumping by the week it has become increasingly difficult for shipyards to do effective costing in a contact to build a vessel that will take several months or even a year to build. At Bollinger Shipyard’s Lockport facility they have just delivered Slap Shot, number eight of Rigdon?s diesel electric series. The next two are well along and will deliver shortly. Although yards are busy and demand for OSV type vessels is high, the next series of boats that Bollinger is undertaking will be built on spec.
