Palfinger Equipment Package for Kreuz Subsea’s New Vessel

Palfinger Marine has been contracted to deliver lifesaving equipment and a winch package for Kreuz Subsea’s newbuild vessel, a Vard 317 design. The vessel for the Singapore-based integrated offshore subsea service provider Kreuz Subsea is designed and constructed by Vard. The DP2 class vessel, with a total length of 91.2 meters a beam of 21.5 meters, is prepared for remote operating vehicles (ROVs) and will be used to for diving support and subsea construction duties. Palfinger Wins Deck Equipment Package

Palfinger Marine signed a contract with Turkish shipyard Cemre to supply a deck equipment package to a Havyard 832 MPV vessel being built for Esvagt. The package from Palfinger consists of cranes, winches and offshore equipment. The MPV will measure 81.9 x 17.16 m, with a  deck area of 620 sq. m., a speed of 15 knots and a bollard pull of 100 tons. The delivery of the equipment is scheduled for 2017.

New Offshore Equipment Contracts for Maritime Pusnes

The Aker Kvaerner subsidiary, Maritime Pusnes, has had a busy start to the new year winning contracts for over NOK 180 million. The contracts involve both marine and offshore equipment demonstrating MP's strength in both these market sectors. Two contracts to supply mooring and riser pull-in equipment for a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel that will be located off the coast of Angola. The mooring equipment consists of 12 underwater (hull-mounted) fairleads for 146 mm chain. Two large linear wire winches will be supplied to pull in and tension the mooring lines. In addition, 12 deck-mounted chain stoppers and overboard fairleads will be produced.

Damen Delivers Shoalbuster 2609 for SAFEEN

SAFEEN, the subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Ports formerly known as Abu Dhabi Marine Services, has taken delivery of a Damen Shoalbuster 2609 named Maqtaa to join its existing fleet. The delivery comes just two months after the order was placed by SAFEEN. Like all the vessels in Damen’s Shoalbuster range, the new vessel is a multipurpose, shallow draught workboat capable of undertaking a range of roles including towing, mooring, pushing, anchor handling, dredge support, supplying and other support activities. Maqtaa’s primary role is providing towage and berthing assistance in the Emirate.

Sea Trucks Awarded Contract Offshore Ghana

Sea Trucks Group said it has secured a contract award from Tullow Ghana Limited for the provision of a Construction Support Vessel (CSV) providing Accommodation and Heavy Lift services to the turret moored FPSO Kwame Nkrumahe, located in the Jubilee Unit Area, 60 km offshore Ghana. The scope of work covers accommodation for up to 120 company pax. The scope also includes the heavy lift of two 50 Ton fairlead chain stopper foundation block structures, a 34 Ton mooring pull-in winch and other smaller lifts.

Rolls-Royce Develops OSV for Island Offshore

Rolls-Royce has won an order to provide integrated design and ship equipment for a highly innovative offshore vessel for Norwegian ship owner Island Offshore. The new striking UT 777 design has been developed in close cooperation with Island Offshore, to be used in offshore drilling operations during harsh weather conditions. The vessel (MOU) will be built in Japan by Kawasaki Heavy Industries and is scheduled for delivery in 2017. The contract is worth around £25 million to Rolls-Royce.

Bardex Supplies Total’s USAN FPSO

Bardex Corporation, with headquarters in Goleta, California, has signed a major contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries of Korea to design, manufacture and supply a mooring system for use on Total's USAN FPSO destined for operation offshore Nigeria. The USAN field is located 62 miles south east of Bonny Island and the FPSO, which will be moored in 2,460 ft water depth, will be operated by Elf Petroleum Nigeria. The specially designed mooring system includes sixteen BarLatch fairlead stoppers sized to hold the 1,770 tonnes break strength of the system's 147 mm R3 studless chain, four moveable linear chain jacks rated for a stall pull of 382 tonnes, two 255 tonnes pull-in messenger winches and two hydraulic power units each of which can provide up to 480 kW.

Roll Dampening on the Grand Banks

Longtime Newfoundland fisherman Vernon Petten of Port-De-Grave isn't afraid of trying something new. For his most recent boat, 65 x 23-ft. Newfoundland Clipper he installed his first Cummins in the engine room and up on top of the boat's shelter deck, he installed his first roll dampener. He chose the 600 hp Cummins KTA19-M3 main engine because of the company's good service reputation. He installed the anti-roll tank because, unlike the more common "flopper-stoppers" which can cost the boat one knot of speed, the tank allows the boat to maintain its regular speed. Designed by Dr. Don Bass, at the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, at Memorial University of Newfoundland, the tank on Petten's boat is built into the shelter deck cover a few feet aft of the forward mounted deckhouse.

Asahi/America Introduces New Butterfly Valve

Asahi/America, Inc., a thermoplastic valve technology company, has recently expanded its line of valves to include the Type 57IL Isolator Lug butterfly valve. The Type 57IL Isolator Lug features a design whose the 316 stainless steel lugs are inserted into the valve body during the injection molding process, permanently combining the lugs and valve body into one unit. The Type 57IL was designed to allow for removal of the downstream flange while maintaining full upstream line pressure. Encapsulating the 316SS lugs in the PVC valve body ensures that every Type 57IL comes factory-equipped with lugs. Asahi/America has simplified the field installation process by removing the directional requirement of their previous butterfly valve.

New Chains Replace Steel for Lashing Cargo

Industrial chains for handling heavy loads are being produced for the first time from DSM’s ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMwPE) fiber, branded as Dyneema. DSM Dyneema has formed a strategic partnership with Load Solutions AS in Bergen, Norway, for development, manufacturing, sales and marketing of link chains made with Dyneema fiber. The chains, branded as TYCAN, are fabricated from webbings and have numerous economic, environmental and safety advantages over traditional chains that for centuries have been made in iron and steel.
