Schottel Breaks Ground for Rudder Propeller Factory Expansion in Germany

Schottel has marked the symbolic start of construction for the expansion of its rudder propeller factory in Dörth, with the construction already advancing towards the planned commissioning in 2025.Schottel is expanding its rudder propeller factory by adding a logistics center measuring around 4,000 m2.As the official ground-breaking ceremony was delayed, it has now taken place symbolically against the backdrop of the shell construction that has already begun.The total investment volume amounts to €9.5 million

CSOV IWS Skywalker Delivered

Integrated Wind Solutions (IWS) announced its IWS Fleet subsidiary has taken delivery of the new commissioning service operations vessel (CSOV) IWS Skywalker from shipbuilder China Merchants Industry Holdings Co., Ltd. (CMI).After transit to Europe, the vessel will commence the first out of three charter contracts at the world's largest offshore wind farm—Dogger Bank, in the U.S.—in the first quarter of 2024.The purpose-built IWS Skywalker is the first of a series of six identical sister vessels, with the remaining five vessels scheduled for delivery in 2024 and 2025.

Schottel Building New Logistics Center in Dörth, Germany

Maritime propulsion specialist Schottel said Tuesday it is expanding its thruster factory in Dörth, Germany, to include a logistics center with a capacity of around 4,000 square meters.A contract for the expansion has now been signed with general contractor Goldbeck from Koblenz.The new building will be annexed to the existing facility and will provide 2,634 square meters of industrial floor space and 1,326 square meters of offices. The groundbreaking ceremony for the 7.5-million-euro structure is to take place at the end of this year

DNV to Class Edda Wind's New CSOVs

DNV said it has signed a classification contract for four new commissioning service operation vessels (CSOVs) ordered by Norwegian offshore wind operator Edda Wind. Set to be delivered from Vard yards in Norway and Vietnam, the CSOVs will serve as primary vessels for offshore wind turbine technicians during commissioning and maintenance tasks, offering them support and a secure working environment. The vessels will be prepared for zero-emission operations based on a Liquid Organic

Duisburg to Open New Trimodal Terminal

The largest trimodal  container terminal in the European hinterland is being developed in the Port of Duisburg.Duisburger Hafen AG (duisport) is set to build a US$111.2mln  new 220,000 m² trimodal container terminal on the site of its current coal island in response to a sharp decline in coal handling as a result of the energy transformation.The trimodal terminal is to be developed with duisport’s intermodal partners COSCO Shipping Logistics, Hupac SA and HTS Group and aims to handle the port’s booming trade with China in particular.This is duisport's response to the sharp decline in coal handling resulting from the energy transformation. In the future, duisport will instead use the coal island in particular to handle the booming trade with China.

LGH Acquires JDN’s UK Hire Division

Lifting Gear Hire (LGH) has acquired the Aberdeen-based hire division of JD Neuhaus (JDN) Ltd., a manufacturer of hoists and crane systems for extreme environments. JDN, headquartered in Germany, will retain its other U.K. divisions, including sales and repair, and will remain an LGH supplier. The value of the transaction was not disclosed. The acquisition, which comes less than a year after LGH re-launched in the U.K. after a 10-year sabbatical, further enhances the company’s fleet of JDN products, principally air operated hoists.

J D Neuhaus Turns to 270

September 9, 2015 marks 270 years of manufacturing for the German based hoist and crane manufacturer J D Neuhaus, and after seven generations, the company is still managed by a descendant of the original owner. Load handling equipment supplied by J D Neuhaus is now utilized throughout the world, from small engineering workshops up to large organizations and including some of the heaviest and most demanding handling operations, even under extreme operating conditions. The company's world market status is backed by a service and supply organization established in more than 90 countries together with over 70 branches. Lifting equipment has been the backbone of the manufacturing company, with its first wooden shaft winch being produced in 1745.

Safely, efficiently lifting and handling increasingly heavy loads takes a hefty dose of the latest heavy lift products and systems. Rolls-Royce is a ubiquitous and growing force in all matters maritime, inching toward the one-stop-shop premise. It is particularly well known in the deck machinery sector, and it recently signed a deal with Detroit Chile SA to supply offshore cranes to nine PSVs under construction at Detroit Brasil Ltda. shipyard, in Itajaì, Brazil. The order includes nine ship sets of the dual draglink crane, making 18 cranes in total.

ABB Acquires APS Technology

ABB acquires APS Technology Group to expand its Crane and Harbor systems portfolio; acquisition expands ABB’s portfolio for container terminal automation to optimize cargo handling and tracking from ship to gate. ABB, a leading power and automation technology group, has agreed to acquire APS Technology Group (APS), a San Diego, California-based company that develops and markets solutions for the port industry. The acquisition will expand ABB’s crane system portfolio to the container terminal market. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2013. Gold Dredging Vessel Delivered

The 50-foot vessel, designed by Anderson Associates, & built by Pacifica has been delivered for gold dredging near Nome, Alaska. Anderson Associates, a Bremerton-based multidisciplinary engineering services firm, recently completed design of a new dredge vessel for Pacifica, a Seattle-based vehicle assembler. The vessel was designed specifically to meet the unique requirements of sub-surface dredging operations in the remote coastal waters of the Bering Sea, and is powered by twin 300HP Yamaha outboards.

Botany Bay Container Terminal Construction Contract Awarded

Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) awards Laing O’Rourke the civil works contract for Australia's new Port Botany Terminal 3. The contract marks the start of the on-ground works of HPH’s A$500 million investment for the development of a new container terminal. Laing O’Rourke will construct an A$150 million civil and rail infrastructure, representing the first phase of the newly reclaimed Botany Bay expansion. The terminal is scheduled to begin operations in 2013. Bayswater Again Opts for Liebherr

In February 2012, Bayswater celebrated the handover of the 2nd Liebherr Mobile Harbor Crane, type LHM 180. Konecranes Receives Container Handling Crane Order

In March 2011 Konecranes received its first container handling crane order from South Africa. Transnet Capital Projects, a specialist unit of South African rail, port and pipeline company Transnet Limited, ordered three RMG (rail mounted gantry) cranes to be used for intermodal operation in Johannesburg. The RMG cranes will be delivered to the City Deep Container Terminal in Johannesburg in 2012. “We are extremely proud of this first RMG order to South Africa and to Transnet,” says Antoine Bosquet, Sales Director, WEMEA, Port cranes at Konecranes.

Cargotec to Partner with DP World

Cargotec to partner with DP World in port automation project for London Gateway. Cargotec has been chosen as the preferred partner to supply 40 Kalmar automatic stacking cranes with related technology and 28 Kalmar shuttle carriers to DP World's deepsea container port London Gateway. Cargotec and DP World have signed a cooperation agreement and aim to finalise the contract shortly. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the intended contract however, a typical value of this size of a project is around EUR 100-150 million depending on the scope of the delivery.

Cargotec Ship-to-Shore Crane Orders

Cargotec has received two significant Kalmar ship-to-shore (STS) crane orders for customers in Mexico and Guadeloupe. Delivery of the crane to Port Autonome de la Guadeloupe in Guadeloupe and the crane for Pinfra’s subsidiary, Infrastructura Portuaria Mexicana in Altamira, Mexico are scheduled for the last quarter 2010. Infrastructura Portuaria Mexicana is preparing to better serve its clients with the expected revival in the global economy by increasing its capacity by purchasing newer and more efficient equipment in Altamira terminal with the addition of the new Kalmar STS crane. The crane has an outreach of 160.7 ft, 62.3 ft backreach and 121.4 ft hoisting height.
