Canada's Seaspan Ferries will add two new Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) - battery hybrid ferries to its fleet in 2021.The vessels will be constructed by Damen Shipyards Gorinchem B.V. at their Mangalia Shipyard in Romania, said a press release from the marine transportation services provider.With construction scheduled to begin in 2019, the vessels are expected to go into operation in 2021. Damen Delivers for Murjan Al Sharq Marine
To complete an extensive oil pipeline dredging and installation project, Murjan Al Sharq Marine Contracting Co. Ltd. (MSMC) has taken delivery of three Damen vessels: a Stan Tug 1606, a Shoalbuster 2509, and a Stan Pontoon 4512 equipped with a Damen DOP Pump. Damen’s 3rd Annual Workboat Festival
Last Thursday, Damen Shipyards Gorinchem hosted the Damen group’s third annual Workboat Festival. The event brought together more than 200 customers, media and industry partners, and 34 workboats, for an afternoon of presentations, demonstrations, product displays and interactive exhibits.The workboats ranged in size from ten-meter Stan Launches and Stan Tugs up to a 72-meter Stan Pontoon. In between were Fast Crew Suppliers, Stan Pilots, Stan Patrols, additional Stan Launches and Tugs, plus an Interceptor and a RHIB.
Damen Lays Keel for 77-meter Expedition Yacht
On July 27 DAMEN SeaXplorer marked a milestone in the construction of the SeaXplorer 77 expedition yacht at a keel laying ceremony at Damen Shipyards Galati on the banks of the Danube. The owner attended the ceremony and welded the traditional coin on the keel. Following the hull building phase, the 77-meter luxury expedition yacht (253 ft) will arrive at Damen’s Vlissingen East yard in the Netherlands for completion and on-schedule delivery in Q4 2020.The SeaXplorer 77 is a customized design from the DAMEN SeaXplorer range.
Workboats: Three Damen Stan Tugs for Corpetrolsa Group
Damen Shipyards Group signed a contract with Corpetrolsa Group of Guayaquil, Ecuador, for the supply of three tugs; one Stan Tug 1205 and two Stan Tugs 1606. The tugs will be operated by Corpetrolsa subsidiary DLEN S.A. to support its bunkering operation. Corpetrolsa Group operates its own fleet of tankers in the 2,000 to 7,000 DWT range and the three new tugs will be used to assist them in the Ecuadorean ports of Esmeraldas and La Libertad. The vessels were already in stock at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem and will be supplied in their standard format without modifications.

National Maritime Shipping Company Kazmortransflot LLP has taken delivery of its third Damen Shoalbuster 2709, the last in the current order.The vessels are ideal for operations in the shallow waters of the Caspian Sea and are now playing a role in the development of oil fields in the Kazakh section of the inland sea and significantly expanding the range of services that Kazmortransflot can offer its clients. The contracts for the three Shoalbusters 2709 were signed in July 2017 between Damen, NMSC Kazmortransflot LLP and Al Hilal Islamic Bank, which arranged the Sharia compliant financing.
Two Damen ASD Tugs 2810 for Iskes Towing & Salvage
Iskes Towage & Salvage, the leading maritime service provider based in the port of IJmuiden, Amsterdam, has taken delivery of two Damen ASD Tugs 2810. The vessels were built at Damen Song Cam Shipyards, Vietnam, and delivered last year to Damen Shipyards Gorinchem, the Netherlands, as part of the group’s strategy to position stock vessels for rapid availability in Europe. This on-demand availability was a significant factor in Damen winning the contract, with both tugs being delivered within two weeks of the contract being signed.
Damen Yacht Support Vessel Game Changer Sold
Dutch shipyard Damen has confirmed the successful sale of its 70-meter support vessel, Game Changer. The yacht will now return to Gorinchem in the Netherlands for further customisation. Game Changer is Damen's fourth Yacht Support vessel sold in the 70-metre segment, proving the ongoing demand for large yachting solutions for worldwide adventures, helicopter and dive operations. Damen has a total of 12 Damen Yacht Support vessels delivered or in build. The next available Yacht Support vessel is a 55-metre YS 5009 Adventure, which will be delivered before the summer this year.
Research Vessel Launched for Angolan Fisheries Ministry
On November 9, Damen Shipyards Galati launched Baía Farta, a new Fishery Research Vessel (FRV) 7417 for the Angolan Ministry of Fisheries. The vessel's sponsor was Dra. Isabel Cristóvão, director of Gabinete de Estudos, Planeamento e Estatística. The FRV 7417 is suited to various purposes, including hydrographic operations, acoustics research, pelagic and demersal trawling, plankton, water, environmental and geographical sampling, oil recovery and emergency towing operations.

The Council of the Confederation of European Maritime Technology Societies presented Damen CEO René Berkvens with the CEMT Award on Thursday, August 24, at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem. The Council bestows the award annually in recognition of the substantial contribution made to the success of the European maritime industry by an individual, company or organization. The contribution can be either technological, political or economic. Damen books DAB Vloot ferry order
The last newbuild order of 2016 for the Damen Shipyards Group was signed on the 31st of December with DAB Vloot of Belgium. The vessel will be a 25-metre ferry especially designed to carry vehicles and passengers across the canal linking Ghent and Terneuzen. Even though the journey time each way for the ferry will be little more than five minutes, the complex route and the minimal room for manoeuvre in the busy waterway means that she will be fitted with twin Voith Schneider propellers (cycloidal drives) to give her the agility required for safe and timely passages.

Damen Shipyards Gorinchem built the walk-to-work services operations vessel Bibby WaveMaster 1, and Pronomar provided drying systems for workwear to the turbine maintenance personnel. Fratelli Neri S.p.A. Orders Three Damen Vessels
Fratelli Neri S.p.A., the family-owned, Livorno-based harbor towage company, has ordered three new Damen vessels; an ASD Tug 2913, a Stan Tug 1606 and a Stan Launch 1305, the last for its subsidiary company Labromare, which is 50% owned by Tripmare S.p.A. All three vessels will operate in and around the port of Livorno, one of the busiest in the Mediterranean Sea. Delivery will take place in November this year. This order takes to six the number of Damen vessels ordered by Fratelli Neri in the past year.
Damen Hosts 'Workboat Festival' for Clients and Partners
Damen Shipyards Gorinchem, which is also the headquarters of the Damen Shipyards Group, opened its doors to customers and industry partners alike for the first Damen Workboat Festival. More than 200 guests arrived for the one-day event, taking the opportunity to inspect a wide range of Damen vessels and experience some of them out on the water. Damen Workboats for Fratelli Neri Fleet Expansion
Italian towing company Fratelli Neri S.p.A. has expanded its fleet with the delivery of three new Damen workboats. The trio of vessels will be based in the company’s home port of Livorno, on the Tuscan coast. Damen delivered all the vessels from stock;completing the final outfitting works within a timescale of three and a half months. This current delivery to Fratelli Neri consists of three different vessels. The first, an ASD 2913, was built at Damen Shipyards Galati. This vessel sailed from Romania to Italy on her own keel.
