Seaspan Awards Major Joint Support Ships Contract
Seaspan Shipyards has contracted Hawboldt Industries to provide deck equipment for a pair of naval supply vessels it is building for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) under Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS).Under the two contracts, which together are valued at $8 million, Hawboldt will design and build the anchoring and mooring packages and the primary cranes for the two Joint Support Ships (JSS) being built at Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyard.Seaspan began building the first JSS in June.

Vard Holdings Limited said it has secured a new contract for the design and construction of a new stern trawler for HAVFISK AS. The contract value is slightly below NOK 400 million. The vessel will be the world’s first stern trawler with an integrated energy storage system, consisting of diesel mechanical/diesel electric propulsion and batteries. The energy storage system together with VARD’s SeaQ Power Management System for power optimization in all operations, will ensure low emission of carbon dioxide, NOx and noise.

Sanmar Orders 42 Rolls-Royce Thrusters
Rolls-Royce said it has secured an extensive supply order from long-time collaborator Sanmar Shipyards for propulsion and deck equipment for tugboats the Turkish shipyard is building for various customers. The scope of supply includes 42 Rolls-Royce US 205/255 azimuth thrusters for 21 harbor/terminal/escort tugs in the 60-, 70- and 80-metric-ton bollard-pull range and high-pressure hydraulic towing winched for the 80-metric-ton models. All vessels are based on new designs developed by Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd., exclusively for Sanmar.
Uzmar to Build Escort Tug for Saam Smit Canada
Turkish shipbuilder Uzmar Shipyard has inked a deal with Saam Smit Canada Inc. (SST Canada), a joint venture partnership between Boskalis of the Netherlands and Saam S.A of Chile, for the construction of a new escort tug for operations in British Columbia, Canada. Designer Robert Allan Ltd. said the state-of-the-art RAstar 3200-W tug will be capable of safely performing all ship-handling roles, including berthing, unberthing and escort duties, including in heavier weather conditions.
OSD Rolls Out New Harbor Tug Design
Offshore Ship Designers (OSD) has launched a new tug design as part of its expanding portfolio of fuel-efficient vessels. The 390 gt Azistern 2870 harbor tug has a hard chine hull form which optimizes energy-saving during transit and results in a very low wash. It has a bollard pull of 70 metric tons and a maximum speed of 12 knots. Providing accommodation for six persons, it has an overall length of 28.3 m, and a breadth of 11.5 m. The Azistern 2870 has been designed with multiple deck equipment options, the installation of which are dependent on specific end-user preference.
CEMEX UK Orders Dredger from Damen
CEMEX UK Marine Limited has placed an order for the first Damen Marine Aggregate Dredger (MAD). The vessel, which will be built at Damen Shipyards Galati, in Romania, is designed to extract sand and gravel from the sea bed up to depths of 55 meters, including in the challenging conditions experienced in the North Sea. Damen said the MAD is the result of extensive market research and customer consultation. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Mechatronics Systems has concluded a licensing agreement with Jiangsu Masada Heavy Industries for the manufacturing and sale of hose handling cranes and slim deck cranes for container ships. The license granted to Jiangsu Masada follows similar agreements in 2008 for deck cranes of bulk carriers and in 2012 for deck machinery and steering gears.
