US Invests Nearly $10 Million to Advance Marine Energy

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced nearly $10 million for seven projects that will accelerate development and testing of marine energy technologies. These investments advance research on wave-powered technology for use in seawater desalination and support a feasibility study for a potential ocean current test facility. “Marine energy technologies have incredible potential to provide clean electricity as well as clean water,” said Alejandro Moreno, Acting Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

Meyer Turku Delivers Costa Smeralda

Wärtsilä Bags Seawater Desalination System Orders

The Meyer Werft Germany, Meyer Turku, STX France and Fincantieri shipyards have all placed orders with Wärtsilä for the supply of fresh water generators to a total of seven cruise ships. The orders were placed between September and November 2014, and delivery is scheduled to commence in May 2015 and will be completed by autumn 2017. Wärtsilä's delivery comprises a total of 10 large MSF distillation systems with unit capacities spanning from 115 tons/day to 900tons/day, and four Single Stage Desalination systems (SSD) with unit capacities of 30 tons/day.

The orders were placed between September and November 2014. Delivery of the Wärtsilä systems is scheduled to commence in May 2015 and will be completed by autumn 2017. Wärtsilä's delivery comprises a total of 10 large MSF distillation systems with unit capacities spanning from 115 tons/day to 900tons/day, and 4 Single Stage Desalination systems (SSD) with unit capacities of 30 tons/day. AMI Launches New Watermarkers Line

Parker Hannifin Acquires Sea Recovery

Parker Agrees to Acquire Sea Recovery from Danfoss A/S to Strengthen Its Position in Seawater Desalination for Marine Applications. Parker Hannifin Corporation (NYSE: PH), the global leader in motion and control technologies, today announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Sea Recovery, headquartered in Compton, CA from Danfoss A/S. Parker will assume ownership of the acquired business on November 1 st, 2012. Sea Recovery is a manufacturer of small to high capacity reverse osmosis systems for sea water desalination used primarily in commercial and pleasure marine applications. Vicel Group, Aqua-Chem Create Joint Venture

Vicel Group, a Brazilian representative of global freshwater and wastewater treatment equipment suppliers and an engineering services company for oil platforms and ships, will meet with Aqua-Chem Inc. CEO David Gensterblum and his executive teammates, Phil Schrader and Jose Flores on March 6 in Brazil  to formalize the creation of a Joint Venture, called Aqua-Chem do Brazil (a 50 percent ACI, 50 percent Vicel investment). The partnership with the U.S. company for the formation of the JV Aqua-Chem do Brasil was planned to meet the market’s growing demand for products with national content, as established by the ANP (oil, gas and biofuel national agency) rules.

Aqua-Chem Awarded Contract

Reverse Osmosis Unit Sets, High Purity Reverse Osmosis Units, technical manual and related provisioning and technical data. The Reverse Osmosis Desalination Systems will replace existing waste heat recovery distilling plants on FFG 7 class ships and will provide increased performance over existing distilling plants. Work will be performed in Knoxville, Tenn., and is expected to be completed by May 2007. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured and posted on the Federal BusinessOpportunity website, with six offers received. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, Philadelphia, Pa., is the contracting activity.
