Nord Stream Owners Looking to Seal and Drain Damaged Gas Pipeline to Halt Corrosion

New Intelligence Points to Pro-Ukraine Group in Nord Stream Attack

EverWind Gets Approval for North America's First Green Hydrogen Facility

Baltic Sea Island Bornholm Suffers Temporary Power Outage

A Danish Baltic Sea island suffered a temporary power blackout on Monday as a local grid fault caused the transformer feeding electricity from Sweden to shut down, Energinet and E.ON said. Partnership to Make Waterways Climate-Neutral

German energy company E.ON, Rotterdam Port Authority and DeltaPort Niederrheinhäfen are partnering up to create conditions conducive to switching inland shipping in Germany and Europe from diesel to battery and/or hydrogen drives.The companies agreed in Essen to develop an infrastructure so that freight and passenger ships with climate-neutral propulsion can exchange battery containers or refuel hydrogen in the ports.The partners' goals include climate protection, improved air quality and the long-term optimization of logistics costs.The pilot concept will initially focus on the German inland DeltaPort location in Voerde and Wesel, which will be developed into a sustainable port network as part of the EcoPort813 project.

Milorad Doljanin New CEO of Avenir LNG

UK-based small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplier Avenir LNG announced that Milorad Doljanin will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer with effect December 13th, 2019.According to a press release from the shipping venture backed by Stolt-Nielsen, Golar LNG and Höegh LNG, Doljanin joined in August 2019 as COO.He brings 15 years of LNG trading and commercial experience with PetroChina, Gazprom, EON and BP.Commenting on his appointment, Milorad said “This is an exciting time for Avenir LNG, a company which is uniquely placed to provide LNG to small-scale LNG customers who were previously unable to access the fuel’s environmental and commercial benefits.”Doljanin succeeds Andrew Pickering, who will retire as CEO of Avenir LNG Limited on December 13th, 2019.

E.ON, Kyuden Mirai to Develop Offshore Wind in Japan

Germany-headquartered energy company E.ON and Japanese renewable energy company Kyuden Mirai Energy signed a cooperation agreement to jointly develop offshore wind projects in Japan.A press release from the European holding company based in Essen said that the cooperation is focused on fixed bottom projects and starts with a study to jointly select a project for development, construction and operations in the Kyushu area, the southernmost island of Japan. The companies may consider expanding the partnership to other regions in Japan.The cooperation follows E.ON’s decision to enter the Japanese wind market. E.ON intends to transfer its experience and technical know-how from its 1.8 gigawatt (GW) installed offshore wind capacity from Europe to Japan.

DNV GL Certifies Arkona Offshore Wind Farm

Norwegian testing and advisory company DNV GL said it awarded the Arkona Offshore Wind Farm with the project certificate.The certification was carried out according to the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH – Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie) standard BSH7005 and covers all stages of the project development from design planning over construction to commissioning.The project certificate confirms all relevant safety features of the wind farm and validates the technical and quality compliance with the BSH standard requirements, to ensure a safe and reliable power supply.Located in the Baltic sea, the Arkona project is 35 kilometres northeast of the German island of Rügen.

EC Probes E.ON-Innogy Merger

The European Commission has opened an in-depth investigation into German utility E.on's  takeover of certain assets from domestic Innogy, saying the transaction may lead to higher prices for consumers.The deal, which is worth a reported €43 billion ($48 billion at today's conversion rate), includes Innogy's distribution and consumer solutions business, as well as certain electricity generation assets.The Commission has concerns that the proposed acquisition may reduce competition in retail markets for electricity and gas in several Member States.Commissioner Margrethe Vestager, in charge of competition policy, said: “European households and business customers should be able to buy electricity and gas at competitive prices.

Carbon Trust to Make Offshore Wind Vessels Greener

The Carbon Trust's Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA)  issued a Request for Information (RFI)  on the potential to reduce emissions and fuel consumption in offshore vessels. The 400-MW Rampion offshore wind farm off the Sussex coast in the UK has been officially opened, said German energy company E.on SE. The offshore wind farm now generating enough green electricity for around 350,000 UK homes setting a new power record in the country.Three years of construction officially came to an end on Saturday (November 29) at a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Rampion offshore wind farm, the first wind farm off the UK's south coast.Named after the county flower of Sussex, the offshore wind farm, over the next 25 years, will make an important contribution to meeting the UK's climate targets.After a three-year construction schedule involving a workforce of around 750 at peak times, all 116 turbines were put into operation in spring.

Offshore Test of New Installation Technology Successful

The Carbon Trust and Fistuca, in conjunction with industry partners announced the successful completion of the offshore trial of the Fistuca BLUE 25M hammer as part of the Offshore Wind Accelerator BLUE PILOT project.The industry partners include E.ON, EDPR,  EnBW, Equinor, Ørsted, Shell, Sif, SSE, Van Oord, and Vattenfall. The offshore test was carried out on August 13, 2018, using Van Oord’s offshore heavy lift installation vessel, Svanen, off the coast of the Netherlands.The BLUE Hammer is an innovative, new hammer utilizing a large water tank to provide a more energetic, but quieter blow for offshore installation. It is designed to reduce underwater noise levels by up to 20 dB (SEL), and is predicted to reduce the fatigue damage during installation on the pile by up to 90 percent.

MPI Pact with Eneco for Prinses Amaliawindpark

MPI Contractors B.V. has signed a contract with Eneco Windmolens Offshore B.V. to provide offshore transport and lifting services during main component replacements planned for wind turbines in the Prinses Amaliawindpark. This Agreement, which will take effect on 1 January 2018, is for a period of five years, with options to extend for a further three and two years. During this period, MPI will mobilise one of its wind turbine installation vessels (WTIVs) for two planned campaigns per year. Operations will involve the exchange of main components, such as gearbox, generator, transformer, blade and/or blade bearing. MPI competed in a European tender procedure that commenced in April this year. Award of this contract was based on the MPI submission scoring best on price and quality.

CWind Provides Vessels for E.ON Offshore Maintenance

CWind, an  integrated service provider in the offshore wind industry, has announced that it supplied Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) to assist with blade repair operations at the offshore wind farm for E.ON, the wind farm site owner at Robin Rigg.  For E.ON, CWind supplied a MPC19 vessel and the SWATH Endurance. The MPC19 benefits from having a low operating draft, which makes it equipped to operate in the shallow waters at the Robin Rigg site, while the SWATH Endurance enables technician transfer in rougher seas. CWind said it has extensive experience in the maintenance and support of offshore wind farms and, in recent years, has undertaken contracts with other clients for similar work at Lincs, Rhyl flats and Lynn & Inner Dowsing offshore wind farms.
