In a First, Container Cargo Vessel on Brahmaputra

The first ever containerized cargo movement via Indo-Bangladesh protocol route and Brahmaputra (National Waterway -2) river will start from West Bengal's Haldia Today."In line with Government’s focus on improving connectivity to the North Eastern Region (NER), a landmark container cargo consignment will sail on inland waterways from Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) to the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) terminal at Pandu in Guwahati on 4 November, 2019," said a government release.Gopal Krishna, Secretary (Shipping) will flag off the inland vessel MV Maheshwari carrying 53 TEUs (containers) of petrochemicals, edible oil and beverage etc.

Indian Ports Register 3.11% Growth

Major ports in India together handled 578.86 Million Tonnes (MT) of cargo during April-January 2019, representing a growth of 3.11 per cent, an official statement said.The major ports had handled 561.39 MT cargo in the corresponding period of previous fiscal, the Ministry of Shipping said in a statement."The major ports in India have recorded a growth of 3.11 per cent and together handled 578.86 MT of cargo during the period April to January, 2019 as against 561.39 MT handled during the corresponding period of previous year," it said.Deendayal (Kandla) Port handled highest volume of traffic of 94.55 mt with 16.33% share. It is followed by Paradip with 89.98 mt (15.54% share), JNPT with 58.6 mt (10.12% share), Visakhapatnam with 54.73 mt (9.45% share) and Kolkata (inc.

Indian Ports Register Positive Growth of 3.77%

The major ports in India have recorded a growth of 3.77% and together handled 518.6 Million Tonnes of cargo during the period April to December, 2018 as against 499.7 Million Tonnes handled during the corresponding period of previous year.According to the press information bureau, govt of India, for the period from April- December 2018, Nine Ports Kolkata (incl. Haldia), Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Kamarajar, Chennai, Cochin, New Mangalore, JNPT and Deendayal have registered positive growth in traffic.The highest growth was registered by Kamarajar Port (18.38%), followed by Cochin (8.92%), Kolkata [inc. Haldia] (8.74%) Paradip (8.11%), and JNPT(7.39%). Kamarajar Port growth was mainly due to increase in traffic of Container (41.20%), Other Misc.

Indian Ports Register Positive Growth of 5.13%

The Major ports in India have recorded a growth of 5.13% and together handled 288.38 MTof cargo during the period April to August, 2018 as against 274.32 MThandled during the corresponding period of previous year.For the period from April-August 2018, nine Ports Kolkata, Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Kamarajar, Chennai, Cochin, New Mangalore, JNPT and Deendayal have registered positive growth in traffic.According to a statement from the Ministry of Shipping, the highest growth was registered by Kamarajar Port (17.24%), followed by Deendayal Port (11.16%), Paradip (10.93%), Cochin (10.13%) and Kolkata (9.01%).Kamarajar Port growth was mainly due to increase in Other Misc.

Indian Ports Register Positive Growth of 4.13%

The major ports in India have recorded a growth of 4.13% and together handled 231.48 Million Tonnes of cargo during the period April to July, 2018 as against 222.29 Million Tonnes handled during the corresponding period of previous year.During this period nine Major Ports - Kolkata (incl. Haldia), Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Kamarajar, Chennai, Cochin, New Mangalore, JNPT and Deendayal have registered positive growth in traffic.The highest growth was registered by Kamarajar Port (12.18%), followed by Cochin (10.30%), Paradip (8.31%), New Mangalore ( 7.88%) and Kolkata [inc. Haldia] (7.74%). Kamarajar Port growth was mainly due to increase in Other Liquids by 20%, Other Misc. Cargo by 13.30%, POL by 11.30%. and Thermal & Steam Coal by 4.44 % .In Kolkata Port, overall growth was 7.74%.

Indian Ports Register 3.91% Growth

The major ports in India have recorded a growth of 3.91% and together handled 174.02 Million Tonnes of cargo during the period April to June, 2018 as against 167.48 Million Tonnes handled during the corresponding period of previous year. For the period from April- June 2018, nine ports - Kolkata including Haldia, Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Kamarajar, Chennai, Cochin, New Mangalore, JNPT and Deendayal (Kandla) Port have registered positive growth in traffic. The highest growth was registered by Kamarajar Port (11.93%), followed by Kolkata including Haldia (10.21%), Paradip (9%), Cochin 7.85%) and Visakhapatnam (7.24%). Kamarajar Port growth was mainly due to increase in Other Liquids by 29.63%, Other Misc. Cargo by 15.06%, POL by 7.51% and Thermal & Steam Coal by 4.93%.

Cargo Traffic at Indian Ports Grow 2.41%

The top 12 major ports in India recorded 2.41 percent growth in cargo handling at 116.26 million tonne (MT) in the first two months of the current fiscal.For the period from April-May 2018, nine ports (Kolkata [including Haldia], Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Kamarajar, Chennai, Cochin, New Mangalore, JNPT and Deendayalhave) registered positive growth in traffic.The highest growth was registered by Kamarajar Port (11.69 percent), followed by Kolkata [including Haldia] (11.33 percent), Cochin (8.7 percent), Paradip (7.61 percent) and New Mangalore (6.66 percent).Kamarajar Port growth was mainly due to increase in other miscellaneous cargo by 28.16 percent…

India Ports Register 4.77% Growth During 2017-18

The major ports in India have recorded a growth of 4.77 per cent and together handled 679.35 Million Tonnes of cargo during the period April 2017 to March 2018 as against 648.39 Million Tonnes handled during the corresponding period of previous year. Nine Ports - Kolkata (including Haldia), Visakhapatnam, Paradip, Kamarajar, Chennai, Cochin, New Mangalore, JNPT and Deendayal also registered positive growth in traffic. Cochin Port registered the highest growth of 16.52 per cent, followed by Paradip 14.68 per cent, Kolkata (incl. Haldia)  13.61 per cent, JNPT 6.2 per cent and New Mangalore 5.28 per cent. The growth at Cochin Port was mainly due to increase in traffic of Fin. Fertilizer (105.88 per cent), POL (20.62 per cent) and Containers (12.46 per cent).

India's Major Ports See 4.58% Cargo Traffic Growth

Major ports in India have recorded a cargo traffic growth of 4.58 percent and together handled 560.97 million tonnes (MT) of merchandise during the period April 2017 to January 2018, as against 536.41 MT handled during the corresponding period of previous year. For the period from April 2017 to January 2018, eight ports i.e. Kolkata including Haldia, Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Cochin, New Mangalore, JNPT and Deendayal have registered positive growth in traffic. The highest growth was registered by Cochin Port (18.36 percent), followed by Paradip (16.01 percent), Kolkata [incl. Haldia] (13.47 percent), New Mangalore (7.37 percent) and JNPT (5.95 percent).

Mansukh Mandavia Inspects Kolkata Port, IWAI Jetty

Indian Minister of State for Shipping, Mansukh Mandaviya inspected the facilities and ongoing projects at Kolkata Port Trust and GR Jetty of Inland Waterways Authority of India. Mandavia visited Netaji Subhas Dock at Kolkata Port Trust where he stressed upon the need for strengthening the Dry Dock facilities. He also inaugurated the renovated Birsa Munda Sarani and Sonapur Road of the Port, and  participated in the tree plantation activities organised by the Port Authorities. He later flagged off the state-of-the–art Seagoing Survey Launch (River Pearl-1) of KoPT. The launch is fitted with hull mounted inboard transducers and equipped with modern survey software for online data acquisition and processing along with AIS and radar. At the G.R.

Indian Ports Register Positive Growth of 3.64%

The major ports in India have recorded a growth of 3.64% and together handled 499.41 Million Tonnes of cargo during the period April to December, 2017 as against 481.87 Million Tonnes handled during the corresponding period of previous year. For the period from April- December 2017, Eight Ports (Kolkata (incl.Haldia), Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Cochin, New Mangalore, JNPT and Kandla) have registered positive growth in traffic. The highest growth was registered by Cochin Port (17.27%), followed by Paradip (14.59%), Kolkata [incl. Haldia] (12.45%), New Mangalore (6.60%) and JNPT (5.94%). Cochin Port growth was mainly due to increase in traffic of POL (24.10%) and Containers (10.79%).

Indian Ports Cargo Traffic Up 3.46%

Major ports in India have recorded a growth of 3.46% and together handled 439.66 Million Tonnes of cargo during the period April to November, 2017 as against 424.96 Million Tonnes handled during the corresponding period of previous year. For the period from April- November 2017, nine Ports (Kolkata (including Haldia), Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Cochin, New Mangalore, Mumbai, JNPT and Kandla) have registered positive growth in traffic. The highest growth was registered by Cochin Port (17.93%), followed by Paradip (13.13%), Kolkata [incl. Haldia] (12.64%), New Mangalore (7.07%) and JNPT (5.69%). Cochin Port growth was mainly due to increase in traffic of POL (25.15%) and Containers (10.46%).

Indian Ports Register Positive Growth of 3.27% in H1

The major ports in India have recorded a growth of 3.27% during the period April to September, 2017 and together handled 383 Million Tonnes of cargo as against 371 Million Tonnes handled during the corresponding period of previous year. The Eight Ports i.e. Kolkata, Paradip, Chennai, Cochin, New Mangalore, Mumbai, JNPT and Kandla registered positive growth in traffic during the period April to October, 2017. The highest growth was registered by Cochin Port (17.66%), followed by Kolkata [incl. Haldia], New Mangalore, Paradip with growth of about 12%. The Cochin Port growth was mainly due to increase in traffic of POL (24.56%) and Containers (11.12%). In Kolkata Port, overall growth was positive i.e. 12.39%. Kolkata Dock System (KDS) registered traffic growth of 3.80%.

Indian Ports Register 3.24% Cargo Growth

Major ports in India handled 326.4 million tonnes of cargo in the April-September period, an increase of 3.24% over the 316.1 million tonnes they handled a year ago. According to the data released by the ministry of shipping, seven out of the 12 major ports in the country recorded traffic growth in the first half of the current fiscal. Seven Ports (Kolkata, Paradip, Chennai, Cochin, New Mangalore, Mumbai and JNPT) registered positive growth in traffic during the period April to September 2017. Cargo traffic handled at Major Ports: The highest growth was registered by Cochin Port (19.62%), followed by Kolkata [incl. Haldia], New Mangalore, Paradip with growth of about  12% . Cochin Port growth was mainly due to increase in traffic of POL (27.8%) and Containers (10.3%).

Technology Drives Growth of India’s Major Ports

Technological advancement for modernization of major ports and reforms for enhancing ease of doing business are driving and sustaining the growth trend line at India’s major ports. The country’s 12 major ports together handled 273.96 Million Tonnes of cargo between April to August, 2017 as against 265.31 Million Tonnes handled during the corresponding period of previous year, an overall growth of 3.26%. Seven Ports (Kolkata, Paradip, Chennai, Cochin, New Mangalore, Mumbai and JNPT) registered positive growth in traffic during the period April to August 2017. The highest growth was registered by Cochin Port (19.99%), followed by New Mangalore (13.26%), Paradip (12.57%), Kolkata [incl. Cochin Port growth was mainly due to increase in traffic of POL (27.99%) and Containers (12.79%).

Essar to Develop LNG Terminal at Haldia

India's Essar Ports has won a contract to build the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in West Bengal  under the Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) at an investment of Rs 450 crore (USD 70 million). A Press Trust of India report said that the LNG project is expected to be commissioned in two years. The facility will come up at the Haldia port with a capacity to store one million tonne of the clean fuel. Haldia Dock Complex under Kolkata Port Trust had earlier this year invited bids for setting up an LNG terminal with storage and distribution facilities. Essar Ports, in consortium with Ultra LNG and Essar Shipping, had participated in the tender and emerged as the highest bidder for the project, beating state-owned Petronet and private operator V Energy.

Indian Ports to Implement RFID

All Major Ports have been directed to implement the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system to track the movement of men, materials and vehicles within the port premises on real time basis. Implementation of RFID system will eliminate manual checking of documents at port gate and real time tracking of movement of vehicles, men and materials. This would reduce congestion and also cost of operations at Ports. Ports have been directed to have the RFID system in place by 31.03.2017. At Haldia Dock Complex (HDC), Kolkata Port Trust,  for RFID based Vehicle Tracking and Management System work order placed on 9.5.2016. Software developed and other activities are in process. The entire project will be implemented by 31.12.2016.

Cargo Commitments for Multimodal Terminal at Haldia

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has received a commitment for transport of 5.92 million tons (MTs) of cargo volume per annum through the Multimodal Terminal at Haldia by the year 2018. This follows a series of consultations IWAI held at Haldia with various industries, firms, shipping lines, cargo operators, shippers and manufacturers. The main items for which commitments have been received are fly-ash, edible oil, vegetable oil, gypsum, etc. Fly-ash is expected to be the major cargo with a commitment of 3.8 MT followed by vegetable oil (0.63 MT), cement (0.36 MT), among others. IWAI is to construct a Multimodal Terminal at Haldia under Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP) which is being implemented with the technical and financial support of the World Bank at a cost of Rs.

Kolkata Port to Start Trans-Loading Ops From New Location

Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) is advising that India’s Kolkata port is expecting to begin trans-loading operations from a new anchorage location within the Kanika Sands area by around June 2013. The Kolkata Port Trust declared the new trans-loading location to the south-west end of Kanika Sands is expected to begin in around three months’ time and follows Dhamra port authorities’ and Odisha Government’s opposition to a previously identified area nearer to Dhamra port. The new location is approximately 30 kilometres east of Dharma port. The Kolkata Port Trust will trans-load 70 per cent of the cargo to barges for respective destinations, while the rest will be transported to the Haldia dock complex.

Asia’s Piracy Situation is Improving

The number and severity of reported incidents against ships in Asia declined significantly in February compared with both the previous month and previous year period, ReCAAP reported. A total of three incidents of armed robbery against ships were reported in Asia in February 2016. No piracy incident was reported. Graph 1 shows the number of incidents reported between February 2015 and February 2016. The number of incidents reported in February 2016 is lowest among the 12-months period. Further, no incidents involving oil cargo theft was reported in February 2016, continuously from September 2015. All three incidents in February 2016 were Category 4 incidents…

Four Terex Gottwald Cranes for IRC Haldia Port

Düsseldorf, Germany, 14 June 2016 – Terex Port Solutions (TPS) is continuing its success in India with its diesel-electric Terex Gottwald mobile harbour cranes. IRC Natural Resources Pvt. Ltd., which is part of the IRC Group (IRC), has ordered two Model 4 mobile harbour cranes in the G HMK 4406 B 4-rope grab variant for its contract at Berth No. 13, Haldia Dock Complex, located to the south of Kolkata on the Ganges estuary. In August 2016, the cranes will be transported, completely erected, by heavy-load vessel to India, where they will handle coal, coke, manganese ore and limestone from October onwards. The two identical machines have a 40-t grab curve and a maximum lifting capacity of 100 t.
