The new Simrad M5027 optically bonded HD monitor for the commercial marine market is a 27” marine monitor designed to meet the color calibration requirements of ECDIS systems and the size requirements of 320mm CAT1 radar systems. According to the manufacturer, the Simrad M5027 monitor is built for long term, reliable operation with an optical bonded LCD as standard. Optical bonded displays eliminate the “air gap” issues of condensation, overheating and contamination common in lesser quality displays.

Pilots in the Port of Brisbane, one of Australia’s fastest growing container ports, are using the word “unmatched” when describing the performance of new navigational equipment from electronic navigation specialist Simrad, a brand within the Navico group. Installed during the recent refit of the pilot boat Amity, the equipment installations include an NSS12 evo2, 12-inch chart-plotter and multifunction display with GPS positioning, supported by a Simrad GS25 GPS antenna, as well as the recently-launched Simrad Halo 3ft Radar operating with the latest Pulse Compression technology.

The new R3016 12U/6X  IMO type approved radar solution is ideal for use aboard CAT 3 SOLAS vessels1, workboats, tugs and coastal fishing boats. Navico’s list of approvals received from the Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute of South Korea has grown following type approval of the latest generation Simrad MARIS ECDIS900 Mk 5 and Mk 15 Electronic Chart Display & Information Systems, joining already approved products such as Simrad Broadband 4G radars, ARGUS antennae, gyrocompasses, autopilots and control and display units. The integrated electronic navigation specialist has secured certificates warranting the new type approvals from KMERI for its IMO type-approved ECDIS navigation systems for use on board merchant vessels.

The new Simrad R2009 and R3016 Radar control units, two dedicated radar displays have been launched today for use with Simrad’s award winning radar antenna solutions. The Simrad R2009 Radar control features a 9” portrait display. The Simrad R3016 boasts a 16” wide-screen display. Both systems utilise an intuitive control interface with the latest generation of digital tuning to allow for optimal situational awareness in the most adverse conditions. Outstanding target resolutions are achieved using beam sharpening technology when paired with the Simrad Broadband 3G/4G Radomes or Halo Pulse Compression arrays. The R2009 and R3016 Radar control units are well suited for use as “stand alone” dedicated radar stations.

The right product for the right application is a familiar claim from marine equipment supplier Simrad, but, when compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements is at stake, it is a call demanding an immediate response. Compliance with the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention on Electronic Chart Data and Information Systems (ECDIS) is now a matter of urgency. The mandatory phase-in for all internationally trading vessels to be fitted with an ECDIS using Electronic Navigation Charts (ENCs) reached a watershed on July 1, 2015.

Marine electronics group Navico is aiming for a top three position in the commercial maritime sector within 3-5 years. Navico Holding AS, parent company to the Simrad brand of navigational marine electronics, has reached an agreement to acquire MARIS (Maritime Information Systems A/S) from The Grieg Group. MARIS is a supplier of data solutions to the commercial maritime sector related to navigation, voyage optimization and voyage monitoring. With well more than 10,000 navigation systems delivered, MARIS is a supplier of ECDIS systems globally. The MARIS ECDIS, radar/ARPA overlay to ECDIS, and VDR solutions complement Navico’s Simrad product portfolio, the company said.
