Akastor’s Subsidiary Wins $101M Case Against Seatrium's Jurong Shipyard

Transocean, Jurong Shipyard Agree Delivery, Payment Delays for 8th Gen Drillship Duo

Transocean: $830M Drilling Contract for Ultra Deepwater Drillship

While the late 2018 oil price swoon has put a damper on an otherwise positive year for offshore energy markets, Transocean Ltd. Sembcorp Marine to Sell West Rigel

Sembcorp Marine announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd (JSPL) has signed an agreement for the sale of the semi-submersible rig West Rigel (Rig) to a buyer at a price of US$500 million. Under the terms of the agreement, the Sale is subject to conditions precedent being met by both parties before the delivery of the Rig and the payment of the price. Once the conditions precedent are fulfilled, the buyer will take delivery of the Rig but the Rig will remain in the Company’s yard for certain works to be undertaken for reactivation. West Rigel was originally contracted by North Atlantic Rigel Ltd (NARL), a subsidiary of North Atlantic Drilling Ltd (NADL) and Seadrill Ltd. Both Seadrill Ltd and NADL have applied for restructuring under Chapter 11 in the United States.

First Oil and Contract Start-up for Libra FPSO

Teekay Offshore Partners L.P. announced that its jointly owned floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, the FPSO Pioneiro de Libra (Libra), has achieved first oil and commenced its 12-year charter contract with a group of international oil companies, including Petrobras, Total, Shell, CNPC and CNOOC Limited, on the Libra oil field where it will perform early well tests. The Libra FPSO unit is the first unit to produce oil on the giant Libra block, which covers more than 1,500 square kilometers in the Santos Basin.

FPSO to Achieve First Oil from Libra Field in July

Teekay informs that the FPSO Pioneiro de Libra arrived May 17 in Brazilian territorial waters. The FPSO unit, owned through a 50/50 joint venture between Odebrecht Oil & Gas and Teekay Offshore, will be the first to produce oil in the Libra Block which covers more than 1,500 square kilometers in the Santos Basin and has estimated reserves of 8-12 billion barrels of recoverable oil. New Fresh Water Generators for Pionerio de Libra FPSO

Dutch water treatment specialist Hatenboer-Water has supplied three fresh water generators for the Pioneiro de Libra oil production vessel built by Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd. The order consists of three reverse osmosis type fresh water generators. Two of the generators are topside installations in heavy duty box frames suitable for a hazardous Ex Zone 2 area. The Pioneiro de Libra is operated by OOGTK Libra GmbH & Co KG, a joint venture between Brazil’s Odebrecht Oil & Gas and Teekay Offshore. The reverse osmosis (RO) units desalinate seawater for different applications on board.

Prosafe Crew to Train Using a New Lifeboat Simulator

Virtual Marine Technology said it has delivered a second lifeboat simulator system to Prosafe. The simulator was custom built for training lifeboat coxswains onboard the Safe Zephyrus, one of Prosafe’s newest accommodation rigs. The Safe Zephyrus was constructed at Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd in Singapore. The vessel complies with Norwegian regulations and is capable of operating in the harshest environments and with the highest standards of safety. It can accommodate up to 450 people in single person cabins.

EIG names Odebrecht, shipyards in Petrobras suit

Investment management firm EIG Management Co added Brazil's engineering conglomerate Odebrecht SA and a few other shipyards in its $221 million fraud suit against Petroleo Brasileiro SA. EIG, in a filing on Wednesday, alleged that Odebrecht SA and other shipyards along with Petrobras misled the firm to invest over $221 million to purchase equity in now-bankrupt Sete Brasil Participacoes SA. The other shipyards mentioned in the filing by EIG and eight of its managed funds include Keppel Corporation Ltd, Sembcorp Marine Ltd and Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd. With recent type approval of an 81-meter-high evacuation system, VIKING has answered the needs of offshore fixed and jack-up rigs to handle extreme heights. Brazil Deepens Bribery Probe

Brazil’s Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) has recommended the deepening of investigations into 10 companies - including Keppel, SembCorp Marine and Kawasaki Heavy-  involved in the alleged bribery transactions with Petrobras and Sete Brasil. The investigations follow allegations by a former engineering manager at Petrobras, which is caught up in a massive procurement corruption scandal that has contributed to efforts to impeach Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff. Singapore rig builder Keppel Corp. Ltd said in a statement its unit Keppel FELS Brasil intends to extend its full cooperation to the authorities if approached. SembCorp Bags US$1bn Semi-sub Deal

Sembcorp Marine has signed an engineering and construction contract worth about US$1 billion to build the world's largest semi-submersible crane vessel for a unit of Netherlands-based Heerema Offshore Services B.V. Scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2018, the DP3 semi-submersible crane vessel (NSCV) is designed for the installation and decommissioning of major offshore facilities. The contract follows a letter-of-intent to build the vessel signed between Sembmarine's wholly owned subsidiary Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd and Heerema Offshore Services in March this year. It will be equipped with two Huisman heavy-lifting offshore cranes of 10,000 MT lifting capacity each and a large reinforced work deck area.

Technip Wins Jurong's FPSO Conversion Contract

Technip has been awarded a topsides detailed engineering and procurement services contract by Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd. The project is part of the conversion of a shuttle tanker into a floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, which is built at the Jurong Shipyard, located in Singapore. Technip will build on its experience in full range of offshore acilities to design the FPSO’s topsides. The FPSO will be based in the Libra field, offshore Brazil, at a water depth of approximately 2,500 meters. Once completed, it will have a capacity of 50,000 barrels of oil per day and 4 million cubic meters of natural gas per day. Technip’s operating center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will execute the contract which is scheduled for completion during the second semester of 2016.

Heerema Signs LOI with Jurong Shipyard for Giant Crane Vessel

Dutch offshore contractor Heerema Offshore Services has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Sembcorp Marine’s Jurong Shipyard in Singapore for the construction of the world’s largest semi-submersible crane vessel (NSCV). The vessel will be equipped with two cranes, each with 10,000-tonne lifting capacity, designed and built by Netherlands-based Huisman Equipment. The cranes designed and under construction by Huisman Equipment, will provide heavy lifting capacity to install and remove offshore facilities and can also be utilized for the installation of subsea structures, foundations, moorings, and floating structures in deep water. The cranes will be used to install subsea structures, foundations, moorings, and floating structures in deepwater.

Avance VLGCs Fixed

Avance Gas said repairs of two very large gas carriers (VLGCs) are complete, allowing the delayed ships to get to work. Both new build VLGCs recently dry-docked - Breeze (83,000dwt, built 2015) and Monsoon (83,000dwt, built 2015) - have completed warranty repairs related to defective stern tube bearings. The vessels went in for repair after Monsoon ran into technical difficulties in March during its maiden voyage from Panama to China, just 11 weeks after being delivery from Zhoushan Shipyard in China. Breeze left the dry-dock at Jurong Shipyard last week and is currently undergoing testing before commencing gassing up operations on Wednesday, while Monsoon left the dry-dock at Zhoushan Shipyard over the weekend and will carry out trials before commencing gassing up operations on June 6.

Transocean Delays Drillships

Transocean Ltd, the world’s largest offshore driller, has delayed delivery of two new ultra-deepwater drillships, the company announced. The company amended its drillship construction contracts ($540 million each) with Jurong Shipyard, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Marine, by 24 months. The two drillships are now expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020, respectively. Transocean has won contracts worth $109 million from mid-May to mid-June. The amount is the highest for the Swiss-based oil major in 2015 and comes at a time when crude oil prices are at a downward. The figure is more than twice that reported in May—$52 million—and about five times more than the $22-million average of the first five months of 2015.

Ezra to Supply Turret Mooring System for Libra Field

Ezra Holdings Limited’s wholly owned subsidiary, London Marine Consultants (LMC), Ezra’s Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) Turret Design outfit, has been awarded a contract by Sembcorp Marine’s subsidiary Jurong Shipyard of Singapore, to supply an external turret mooring system for the Libra field’s Extended Well Test (EWT) FPSO vessel. The Libra oil field is a large, ultra-deepwater (up to 2,500 meters) oil prospect located in the Santos Basin, about 230 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, north of Tupi field. The oil field estimated to contain recoverable resources ranging between eight billion to 12 billion barrels of oil and is one of the largest deepwater oil accumulations globally.
