Indian LPG Sales Trickle Due to Hormuz Shipping Disruptions
Indian state fuel retailers' sale of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) slowed in the first half of March, preliminary data showed, as the country reels from its worst LPG crisis in decades due to shipping disruption in the Strait of Hormuz.India buys about 90% of its imports of LPG - mainly used for cooking - from the Middle East and its supplies have been disrupted after traffic through the strait ground to a near standstill in the wake of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.State fuel retailers Indian Oil Corp IOC.NS, Hindustan Petroleum Corp and Bharat Petroleum Corp sell cooking gas in India. The thre
BP, Golar Agree 11-month Delay for Gimi FLNG
Golar LNG has informed that force majeure events have been lifted on the GIMI FLNG the company is building for Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project in Senegal/Mauritania offshore area, and that the project would be delayed for 11 months compared to the original schedule.Golar and BP in February 2019 signed a 20-year deal for the charter of a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) unit, Gimi, for the project in Senegal/Mauritania, with the expected start-up in 2022. First Vessel Heads for MD's Cove Point LNG
The first liquefied natural gas vessel, the Maran Gas Delphi, was headed Thursday for Dominion Energy Inc's Cove Point LNG export facility in Maryland, a Reuters interactive map showed, with the facility expected to enter service by the end of the year. Cove Point will be the second large LNG export terminal in the lower 48 U.S. states, after Cheniere Energy Inc's Sabine Pass terminal in Louisiana, which exported its first cargo in February 2016. The Maran Gas Delphi, which is currently entering the Chesapeake Bay, is expected to arrive at the $4 billion terminal later Thursday. It can hold about 3.3 billion cubic feet (bcf) natural gas. One bcf is enough fuel for about 5 million U.S. homes.
Exmar in Talks to Supply FLNG Vessel for Iran Project
Belgium's Exmar is in negotiations for the use of its floating liquefied natural gas vessel Caribbean FLNG (CFLNG) for an Iranian export project, the company told Reuters on Thursday. The barge-based liquefaction facility, delivered to Exmar earlier this year, was initially destined to go to Colombia, but remains unemployed after its contract was terminated. The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said in a statement on its website it would supply natural gas for the project, led by Norway's IFLNG, and that it expected to use the Caribbean FLNG vessel.
First US LNG Shipment Goes to China
The first liquefied natural gas vessel from the lower 48 U.S. states is on its way to China, according to a Reuters interactive map on Friday, the latest sign that the expanded Panama Canal is allowing U.S. exports to reach the world's top LNG buyers in Asia. Royal Dutch Shell's Maran Gas Apollonia loaded up with gas at Cheniere Energy Inc's Sabine Pass LNG export plant in Louisiana, the map showed. It passed through the canal earlier this week and was moving northwest up the west coast of Mexico on Friday afternoon.
Shipyards Rising Competitive Stirrings
A mini order boom fueled by gas, “green-tech”, tankers and new rules is underway in shipbuilding. It won’t fill all yards, but changes like the July 2015 cap on sulfur emissions garner retrofit and rush orders. Even China’s Directive 55 obliges its mixed bag of yards to comply. Threatening to plug this trickle of business is the potential for backlash against rule makers, when Class is observed “engaging” some yards on designs while others must merely learn the new requirements.
Bechtel to Design America's First FLNG
The first U.S.-based floating liquefied natural gas vessel (FLNGV) moved closer to reality after engineering giant Bechtel agreed to design and engineer the project. Bechtel has been selected by Delfin LNG, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fairwood Peninsula Energy, to perform front-end engineering and design for the floating FLNGV to go into service at Port Delfin. Port Delfin is a proposed deepwater port and floating LNG facility that will be located approximately 50 miles off the coastline of Cameron Parish, Louisiana. Delfin LNG’s project will be the first offshore floating natural gas liquefaction facility in the United States, Bechtel said in a statement on Tuesday.
