Kongsberg Hybrid Power System for Island Offshore PSV Trio

Norwegian offshore support vessel owner Island Offshore has awarded a contract to Kongsberg Maritime to supply turnkey hybrid battery solutions for three platform supply vessels.Two vessels Island Crusader and Island Contender, previously operated with a combination of Bergen LNG engines and Bergen Diesel engines, while the Island Commander deploys four diesel engines. For the first time in its nearly 50-year history, Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor welcomed general cargo vessel HC Melina carrying a unique shipment of two, large rubber-tire gantry (RTG) cranes destined for the CSX Intermodal Terminals’ facility in Chicago.Once the 68-piece shipment is fully assembled, the RTG cranes will have a span of eight containers wide and with a hoisting height of one over four containers high. Trelleborg to Supply FPSO Mooring Systems in Angola

Trelleborg’s marine systems operation has been awarded the contract to supply complete tandem mooring systems to two floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels in Angola, West Africa. The Angola-based FPSO tandem mooring projects demanded solutions capable of performing demanding offshore applications, while adhering to project quality documentation processes and Class rules, Trelleborg said. In addition, the projects also required the long-term provision of technical and field support services.

Lilaas Engages Imtra for North American Distribution

Prospects in the North American marine equipment market have triggered a new and distribution agreement between control specialist Lilaas AS and marine and offshore sales and support organization Imtra Corporation, of New Bedford, Mass. The deal, initially over three years, will see Imtra’s 52-man organization offering product and after sales technical support for Lilaas control levers, joysticks and rudder controls in the U.S. and Canada. Imtra’s clients include vessel operators in the commercial marine, inland waterway, fishing and offshore sectors, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S.

Saab Marine Group Is Newest Spin Off

Saab Marine Electronics has formed a new group of companies in order to supply the marine market with a total concept for modern applications. During a short period of time Saab Marine Electronics has acquired the share holding majority in three companies with complementary high performance equipment within ship automation, tank cleaning and ballast and bunker tank monitoring. At the same time, Saab Marine Electronics has established marine sales and service companies in Singapore, Dubai, Russia and the U.K.

KCI Konecranes Wins 30-Crane Order

Maersk Inc. contracted KCI Konecranes for the delivery of 30 Rail Mounted Gantry Container Handling Cranes (RMG) to APM Terminals' new container terminal in Portsmouth, Va. The contract calls for deliveries to begin in October 2006, and includes the option for an additional 30 cranes. The order value was not disclosed. APM Terminals' new Virginia container terminal project is the largest single private investment in container terminals in the United States. The new terminal is expected to set a new benchmark in the container handling industry, establishing new performance standards and methods of operation. The Konecranes RMG cranes will be used for high density container stacking and truck loading in the container yard.
