Verifavia Shipping Leads in EU MRV and IMO DCS IT System Certification

Bergeron to be Keynote Speaker at SHIPPINGInsight

Shipnet Supplies K Line LNG Shipping

ShipNet has been selected by K Line LNG Shipping (UK) Ltd to replace their Safety and Document Management solutions, sub-sections of ShipNet’s Marine ERP, onboard their eight LNG carriers and ashore. Shipment Delivers to Gulf Energy Maritime

Dubai-based shipowner, Gulf Energy Maritime (GEM), operators of oil and chemical tankers, have completed the implementation of ShipNet’s Safety Management System, a sub section of ShipNet’s Marine ERP. GEM’s decision was based on their need to implement a Safety Management System enabling and support their Tanker Management and Self Assessment (TMSA) related KPIs, checklist and extensive audit functionality. Karlstad Named Director of Sales at SIS

Branch offices are subsidiaries of one of the three ShipNet companies (ShipNet AS, ShipNet USA, ShipNet Asia). New CEO at ShipNet

ShipNet named Tormod Haavi as its new Managing Director, succeeding Sven Erik Dølvik. Haavi will assume his new role from July 1, 2006. Haavi was ShipNet’s Commercial Director until the end of 2000. During the years since he left ShipNet, Haavi has worked as an independent management consultant. His projects, amongst others, have been related to business development, mergers and acquisitions on an international level. “ShipNet`s unique asset in the form of its global customer base and shipping competence, is a great basis, but without adapting to tomorrows technology and changes, is worth nothing, ” said Tormod Haavi. “Our job is to further build on this basis in order to maintain and further develop ShipNet`s leading market position.”

E-Business: Growing in Maritime Industry

E-business means doing business on the Internet. This can include any business process - to include buying and selling, which is known as E-commerce. The arranging for transport by sea or the buying and selling of things needed for ships that sail from port to port are among the world's oldest professions. Many ship owners, operators or managers still conduct business the old-fashioned way, building and maintaining close and longstanding relationships with suppliers or customers. While the dot-com craze of a few years ago has passed, E-business is revolutionizing several important business processes in the maritime industry. Computers can aid in the design and construction of vessels, and the Internet can be used to transmit design information and changes instantaneously.

How Far Has E-Procurement Come in the Maritime Community?

As dot-com firms that lacked a solid foundation disappeared from the landscape, the strongest are left standing amid the rubble. It is worth noting that at the height of the 'dot-com' boom and phenomenal statistics from various research groups, Gartner Group predicted that 75 percent of e-business projects would fail because of a lack of understanding of technology and poor business planning. Of the companies predominately built on smaller amounts of capital from within the industry such as Oslo, Norway-based MarineProvider — from day one there was a vested interest in not only the day-day operations of the company via its investors, but there was a mission that MarineProvider had — which was to assist companies already within the maritime community.
