Sojitz Buys Spanish LNG Terminal
Japan's Sojitz Corporation has acquired full ownership of First State Regasificadora (FSR), subsequently changing the company’s name to Sojitz Regasificadora (SR). SR owns a 15% stake in Regasificadora del Noroeste (Reganosa), whose assets include the LNG terminal located in Mugardos, located in the northwest of Spain. This makes Sojitz Corporation (Sojitz) the first Japanese trading company to enter into the LNG terminal business in Europe. Reganosa commenced operations at the Mugardos LNG Terminal in 2007. LNG delivered to the Mugardos LNG Terminal is not only supplied to the domestic market in Spain, but also reloaded and delivered to Asia as well as other parts of the world. Reganosa also has plans to use the terminal as an LNG bunkering station for ships using LNG as marine fuel.
Omani Power Firms Set To Double Profits After Share Offer
Oman's Al Batinah Power Co and Al Suwadi Power Co, which launched twin initial public share offers on Sunday and are owned by the same consortium, will double their profits from 2014 to 2018 as they pay off start-up costs, a top executive said. The firms, whose owners aim to raise a combined 62.7 million rials ($163 million) through the sale of 35 percent of each company, together provide just over a quarter of the electricity for Oman's main power grid - around the capital, Muscat. The companies were required to go public and list on the sultanate's bourse under the terms of their licences, having launched operations in April 2013.
Chevron’s Brazil Spill Legal Claims Rise to $22 Billion
Chevron Corp. and Transocean Ltd. are being sued for $22 billion in environmental damages in Brazil, double initial claims, after a federal prosecutor filed a second lawsuit over oil spills off the nation’s coast, according to Bloomberg. Chevron committed “a series of errors” which led to the March spill at Frade, the second incident at the offshore oil project, the federal prosecutors’ office said yesterday. Prosecutor Eduardo Santos de Oliveira is also seeking to halt operations at Frade and block San Ramon, California- based Chevron from transferring profits from Brazil. “The oil spill at the Frade field hasn’t been contained,” Oliveira said.

Ecochlor Inc. announced that it had recently completed a $4.1 million equity financing to support its growth into the burgeoning ballast water treatment market. Investors participating in the financing included Sojitz Marine & Engineering Corporation, the shipping subsidiary of the Japanese trading company, Sojitz Corporation, and a number of individual investors. Sojitz invested $1.8 million. As part of the financing, Sojitz became the exclusive distributor for Ecochlor’s products in Japan and Taiwan and a non-exclusive distributor in China and South Korea. “We are pleased to have the support of Sojitz, both as an investor and as a distribution Partner,” said Charlie Miller, Ecochlor’s CEO.

The company’s Ballast Water Treatment Systems use chlorine dioxide technology, which has been used in water treatment and industrial applications for decades, to disinfect water used as ballast on ships.
