MAN ES Invests in Hydrogen
MAN Energy Solutions is acquiring 40 percent of the shares of the electrolysis technology company H-TEC SYSTEMS. A contract confirming the partial acquisition was signed in Augsburg by Dr. Uwe Lauber, CEO of MAN Energy Solutions, and Ove Petersen and Heinrich Gärtner, executive managers of the GP JOULE Group. The contract also makes provisions for a majority or complete takeover of H-TEC SYSTEMS at a later date. The company will continue to be independently represented on the market with no change in the level of commitment to its customers.
WMU: Maritime Energy Postgraduate Diploma
The World Maritime University has launched a new Postgraduate Diploma program on Maritime Energy via distance learning. The new program is designed to take a holistic approach from ships to ports and shipyards, combining technical solutions with a socio-economic-environmental perspective.“The 2015 Paris Agreement and new IMO greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) Strategy require a significant reduction in GHG to be achieved over the coming decades, reaching zero emissions of CO2 before the end of this century,” said Dr Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, WMU’s President.

Japanese cruise organization Peace Boat has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with the Finnish shipbuilding company Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Inc. MOL Triumph, the world's largest containership with a carrying capacity of 20,170 TEU, successfully arrived at Yangshan Port in Shanghai on April 10, 2017, said Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. MOL took delivery of MOL Triumph, the first of six 20,000 TEU-class containerships from Samsung Heavy Industries on March 27, 2017. At 400 meters in length and 58.8 meters in width, MOL Triumph is longer than the Oriental Pearl Radio and TV Tower of Shanghai is tall. MOL established MOL (China) in Shanghai in 1995.
World's Largest Containership Delivered
The world's largest containership, MOL Triumph, was delivered to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) from Samsung Heavy Industries on March 27, 2017. MOL's newest vessel, the first of a fleet of six 20,000 TEU-class containerships for the company, was named MOL Triumph in a ceremony at SHI in South Korea on March 15, 2017. At 400 meters in length and 58.8 meters in width, MOL Triumph is currently the world's largest containership. With a capacity of 20,170 TEU, the vessel is the first 20,000 TEU-class containership deployed in THE Alliance's Asia to Europe trade via the FE2 service.
European Consortium Launches Blue Nodules Project
On 1 February a European consortium launched a new Horizon 2020 project: Blue Nodules. This project addresses the challenge of creating a viable and sustainable value chain to retrieve polymetallic nodules from the ocean floor. It will develop and test new highly-automated and sustainable technologies for deep-sea mining with minimal environmental pressures. The technical side of the project is dedicated to subsea harvesting equipment in addition to the in-situ seafloor and sea surface processing of polymetallic nodules.
Wärtsilä to Acquire Hamworthy plc
Wärtsilä Corporation reached agreement with the Board of Hamworthy plc, a UK listed engineering company focussed on the marine and oil and gas sectors, in regards to a recommended cash offer for the acquisition of Hamworthy. Under the terms of the acquisition Hamworthy shareholders will receive 825 pence in cash for each Hamworthy share valuing Hamworthy's entire issued and to be issued share capital at approximately GBP 383 million. This represents an EV / LTM EBITDA multiple of 14.3x as per 30 September 2011. The acquisition is conditional on the approval by the shareholders of Hamworthy.
