Technip Energies Acquires 16.3% Stake in Floating Wind Tech Start-up X1 Wind

Engineering and technology group, Technip Energies has acquired a 16.3% stake in X1 Wind, a startup that has designed "an innovative and disruptive" offshore wind turbine floater.Technip Energies is the lead investor in this funding round, which also counts with the participation of the European Commission-owned European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, advised by the European Investment Bank (EIB), and some of X1 Wind’s previous shareholders. USCG Concludes Investigation into Auger Lifeboat Accident

Heerema Marine Contractors' deepwater construction vessel Balder has recently completed the offshore removal of the Morpeth Tension-leg Platform (TLP) in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico for client Eni.The Morpeth Tension-leg Platform had reached a 20-year design life and ceased all production in August 2018.Heerema Marine Contractors' Balder mobilized to the Morpeth Field in mid-April 2021 to begin executing the TLP removal. SBM Offshore Wins AIP for Wind Floater Design from ABS

The classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has issued an Approval in Principle (AIP) to Dutch-based SBM Offshore for its proprietary wind floater design.The global provider of floating production and mooring systems (FPSO) said that the wind floater is a TLP concept and has been designed for the full life cycle, including in-place conditions, as well as wet tow with the wind turbine installed, and mooring hook-up phase.The AIP demonstrates the successful design of the floater, compliant with ABS’ design standards, said the offshore oil and gas company.“We are very proud of this Approval in Principle and it is a testament to the expertise and innovative spirit at SBM Offshore.

Production Floaters Orders Are on the Rebound

Fifteen production floaters were contracted in 2017 – 11 FPSOs, two production semis, a wellhead TLP and an FLNG – and the number of deep water projects in the near-term planning queue indicates production floater orders are set to accelerate. ABS Approval Advances Tension Leg Platform Concept

ABS granted approval in principle (AIP) for a Tension Leg Platform (DSTLP500) design developed by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (DSIC). “ABS and DSIC have a long relationship and have worked closely on a broad range of offshore projects, semi-submersible units, jackups and drill ships,” said ABS Executive Vice President for Global Offshore Kenneth Richardson. “Gaining ABS approval is an important step in helping bring this project closer to realization,” said Wenmin Liu, China Ship Design Master and Senior Offshore Technical Expert DSIC. This unit is designed with four pontoons, four columns and eight tendons, suitable for operation in the water depth up to 500m, primarily in South China Sea.

Semi-submersible Crane Vessel Hermod Retired

Heerema Marine Contractors said its semi-submersible crane vessel Hermod will retire at the end of this year after nearly 40 years of operational performance. Designed and constructed in the 1970s, Hermod and sister vessel Balder were the first semi-submersible crane vessels of their kind in the offshore construction industry. The semi-submersible concept was developed with the aim to extend the operability in the harsh North Sea environment and furthermore to deliver superior lifting capacity.

Crowley Supports Platform Tow-out, Installation in US Gulf

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s ocean class tugboats and 455-series high-deck strength barges recently played an integral role in the tow-out and installation of Hess’ Stampede tension-leg platform (TLP) in the deep waters of the U.S. Gulf. Demonstrating both nearshore and offshore capabilities, six Crowley vessels worked together alongside other third-party assets to deliver the oversized, overweight platform, tendons and other equipment from the Kiewit facility in Ingleside, Texas, to the site of the Stampede floating production facility, about 150 miles offshore in 3,400 feet of water.

HHI to Localise Main Equipment for Offshore Plants

Seoul, South Korea – February 4 – Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the world’s largest shipbuilder, announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on the localization of main equipment and materials for offshore plants with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (DHIC) and Center for Creative Economy & Innovation in Ulsan and Gyeongnam. HHI and DHIC agreed to develop six main items of equipment for offshore plants such as floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) units and tension leg platforms (TLP), by sharing engineering and construction technology and prowess in on- and offshore plant sectors where the two companies have been actively played.

New Standard for Offshore O&G Project by DNV GL Led JIP is Cost Saving

Variations in owner, operator and regulatory requirements during engineering and construction phases at South Korean shipyards present a huge challenge for operators and drive up costs. DNV GL has kicked off a joint industry project (JIP) with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company (DSME) and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI)  that will establish a new international standard for offshore oil and gas projects. The results could potentially cut project costs by 15%, or approximately USD 500 million for a typical TLP (tension leg platform) project, for example. The JIP aims to develop common and global best practices for components and equipment to reduce the number of, and variations in, requirements to the minimum necessary.

Hess Selects BMT for Stampede Marine Monitoring System

BMT Scientific Marine Services (BMT), an international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, has been selected by Hess Corporation to supply an Integrated Marine Monitoring System (IMMS) for the Stampede Tension Leg Platform (TLP) in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The system includes instrumentation to measure the environmental conditions impacting the TLP and the platform dynamic responses. The IMMS displays real-time sensor data in an easy to understand format to support platform marine operators, as well as collecting detailed data sets to support long term integrity asset monitoring. The Stampede TLP is another addition to the long list of floating production facilities that BMT has instrumented and serviced in the Gulf of Mexico over the past 15 years.

Chevron Moving Platform to Sheltered Waters

Chevron Corporation today advised that the Big Foot tension-leg platform (TLP) will be moved to sheltered waters from its location in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico following damage to subsea installation tendons. The tendons were pre-installed in preparation for connection to the Big Foot TLP. Between Friday, May 29 and Sunday, May 31, 2015, several tendons lost buoyancy. The Big Foot TLP was not connected to any subsea wells or tendons at the time of the incident and was not damaged. There are no producing wells at Big Foot at this time. There were no injuries and there has been no release of any fluids to the environment. Damage to the tendons, which are not connected to subsea wells and are used to attach the TLP to the seafloor, is being assessed.

On April 21, Hyundai-10000, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI)’s newest floating crane, succeeded to the throne of “symbol of HHI” from the two 1,600-ton gantry cranes at its offshore yard by lifting a topside module of Moho Nord tension leg platform (TLP) at once. What makes Hyundai-10000 a successor to the 1,600-ton Goliath cranes is not just because it is new but because it has an unparalleled lifting capacity at one of the world’s biggest offshore yards. Hyundai-10000 can lift subjects about six times heavier than the Goliath crane, hence its name.
