Portsmouth, UK – 29th March 2011 - QinetiQ GRC, the developer of Paramarine advanced marine design software, has been selected by Öswag, one of Austria’s leading shipyards to assist them in the design of river vessels. They will be using Paramarine for stability calculations and damage stability on inland waterway ships primarily for the Danube and the Rhine.

Öswag is based in Linz, Austria, where they maintain, repair, modify and construct riverboats for use on the river Danube and Central European lakes.  With over 100 staff they can handle vessels displacing up to 3000 tonnes.

“We carried out an extensive review of marine design software tools for use in the design of passenger vessels, cargo vessels and work boats for inland waterways. It was also important that the tool we selected incorporated the Rhine River rules. Based on a combination of market reputation, functionality and ease of use we selected Paramarine. In addition, its ability to integrate with our CAD/CAM tool Siemens NX, enables us to speed up the whole design process and improve accuracy,” said Harald Böhm, Chief Project Engineer, Öswag.

Paramarine is based on 20 years’ experience in marine design. Thousands of concept vessels have been modelled and their stability analysed using Paramarine. It is used by many of the world’s leading shipbuilders, as well as some of the world’s leading universities including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and University College London. The launch of the latest version of Paramarine has further extended and enhanced the software’s functionality with enhancements to its reporting, concurrent design and documentation capabilities

“We are very pleased to have been selected by Öswag following their extensive review of the market.  The selection by Öswag for use in the design of inland vessels further demonstrates the versatility and flexibility of Paramarine software underpinned by its ease of use. Additionally we have been able to rapidly respond to Öswag’s specific requirements for the incorporation of the Rhine River requirements further demonstrating that when  customers purchase Paramarine they  not only buy a best in class solution but they also get access to a business that can support their specific requirements,” said Vittorio Vagliani, Managing Director, QinetiQ  GRC.
