Dron & Dickson, specialist in design, supply and maintenance of hazardous area electrical equipment, has opened an office in Brazil creating the potential for future work in the area.

The new base follows on from £10 million of contracts being secured in the region. Dron & Dickson Servicos de Equipamentos Electricos Ltda. will be the company’s first registered office in South America, located in Rio de Janiero.

The company has a history of work within the region, including ongoing contracts to perform electrical inspection and maintenance, as well as rope access work, on assets offshore Brazil.

Dron & Dickson’s Brazil team comprises 60 rope access technicians and Ex inspectors. Staff numbers are forecast to increase over the coming months by recruiting locally and bringing further technical staff from the U.K.

Dron & Dickson said the Brazil office represents the next step in its expansion plans. The company has an existing office in Dubai and, in November 2012, it acquired Abu Dhabi-based Totus Energy to further its reach in the Middle East.

Dron & Dickson employs more than 300 people both off and onshore and has a network of bases in Aberdeen, Hull, Lowestoft, Stirling, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The company provides a wide range of services, which includes the design, specification, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment in hazardous areas both on and offshore.

In addition to targeting growth in the oil and gas sector, Dron & Dickson operates in the renewables and decommissioning markets. It also works in a variety of other sectors of industry ranging from pharmaceuticals to distilleries. The company offers a full range of lifecycle solutions and holds numerous supply agreements providing competitive contract prices, matched inventory, spend analysis, KPI reporting and technical support.
