Pilot Trial of New Class Survey Reports

SpecTec announced a pilot scheme for an innovative take on traditional Classification Survey Reports in association with Lloyd's Register, Carnival UK and James Fisher Mimic.

SpecTec worked alongside industry members Lloyd's Register, Carnival UK and James Fisher Mimic to produce a breaking report to substantially increase the efficiency of class surveys by presenting machinery information required in a simple, quick and cost effective manner. Essentially, this report is extracting data from systems that are already in place, and delivering the data to the right person and in a format which will support the vital function of the surveyor.

By joining the two systems all relevant maintenance history and condition monitoring information can be gathered into one report. It takes seconds to produce and provides all of the information necessary to satisfy the Class Rules and Requirements.

The Mimic Classification Survey Report merges information from Mimic and AMOS to provide a detailed report for CM Notated machinery audits, showing all of the information that a Class Surveyor requires in order to satisfy the Class requirement, as stipulated by Lloyd's Register

A pilot trial is due to commence with the aim of finding out if this report will create a streamlined process combining condition monitoring data together with vital information from ships computerized maintenance management systems. The pilot project team includes: Carnival UK, Lloyds Register, JF Mimic and SpecTec. A positive result could have wide-reaching implications and may set new standards - in terms of more efficient and cost-effective surveys.

Martin Briddon MBE from James Fisher Mimic will introduce and launch the 'Mimic Shipping Classification Report' at the Lloyds List '3rd Condition Monitoring Conference' on 29 April at the 2009 Ship Repair & Conversion Exhibition, National Hall, Olympia, London.
