Maritime Consolidation: Palfinger Aims to Acquire Harding

As maritime markets continue to struggle, merger and acquisition activity should heat up. Today, Austria's Palfinger Group announced that it intends to acquire 100% of the shares in Herkules Harding Holding AS and thus, the globally operating Harding Group. The seller is the Norwegian private equity fund Herkules. Harding is a leading suppliers of lifesaving equipment and lifecycle services for maritime installations and ships.
New Tug Heads for New Zealand

Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey said it is in the process of shipping a Robert Allan Limited designed Rascal Class ASD tugboat to Port Otago Limited (POL) in New Zealand. The new tug, Arihi, named in consultation with the local Rununga (Maori council), measures 18 m long, has a bollard pull of 30 t and was completed in less than five months from date of order. Arihi will be primarily used by POL in assisting in channel dredging, a task that began in 2015.
Jensen Debuts New Tractor Tug Design

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Seattle-based naval architecture and engineering firm, Jensen Maritime, reports it has designed a new tractor tug for Vessel Chartering LLC that features some of the first Tier IV engines meeting higher federal air emissions standards among U.S. tugboats. The multipurpose tractor tug, engineered to support ship escorts, assists and towing, was jointly developed by Vessel Chartering LLC and Jensen and is being built by JT Marine of Vancouver, Wash.
Rapp Marine Equips Pelagic Fleet Trawlers

Rapp Marine has received two new orders for the supply of complete electrical deck machinery packages for the two pelagic trawlers, Rockall and Themis, announced Morten Stenkjær, VP Sales Fisheries Rapp Marine. Rapp Marine signed the contract in March 2016 with the shipbuilder Karstensens Skibsværft in Skagen, Denmark, for these two newbuildings. Astrid Fiskeri AS in Skagen owns Rockall, while Themis is owned by Themis Fiskeri AS in Thyborøn.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) delivereed the Reverse Tractor Tug Archie T. Higgins to Bisso Offshore, LLC in late 2015. Upon arrival in Louisiana and at the mouth of the Mississippi River, the vessel went right to work escorting its first ship northbound to New Orleans. The vessel names honors Archibald (Archie) Thomas Higgins, Jr., who passed away earlier this year. Higgins helped lead the company’s operations from 1973 until 1995. Higgins also served on the Board of Directors of E.N.

BISSO MARINE has acquired offshore pipelay industry's stalwart derrick/pipelay barge GLOBAL IROQUOIS. The 400 foot x 100 foot x 30 foot laybarge has performed pipelay operations worldwide and will be renamed BISSO IROQUOIS. The central part of the barge’s substantial station keeping system are the ten single drum winches with 320 kips of pulling force and 744 kip holding force each. Each single drum winch holds 5,300 feet of 2.5 inch wire rope.
Palfinger Equipment Package for Kreuz Subsea’s New Vessel

Palfinger Marine has been contracted to deliver lifesaving equipment and a winch package for Kreuz Subsea’s newbuild vessel, a Vard 317 design. The vessel for the Singapore-based integrated offshore subsea service provider Kreuz Subsea is designed and constructed by Vard. The DP2 class vessel, with a total length of 91.2 meters a beam of 21.5 meters, is prepared for remote operating vehicles (ROVs) and will be used to for diving support and subsea construction duties.

Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group (Sinopacific) in Shanghai for a package of power and propulsion equipment and deck machinery. The contract is to equip nine SPA80A Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessels to be designed and built by Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group and owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, ESNAAD.
