Delta Power Group (builder of Delta RIBs) announced three recent contracts. Both the 10.80m Phantom daughter craft, modified for Arctic waters and the 9m Irish Coastguard vessels make their debut at this year’s Seawork exhibition (The 10.80m is on E P Barrus’ berth 12 and the 9m Irish Coastguard vessel is on Yamaha’s berth 3).
The Severn Area Rescue Association’s new Delta RIB (March 2011 delivery) is based on the Delta six person SOLAS 450IPI Rescue RIB and is fitted with sophisticated communications equipment to facilitate searching for survivors at both day and night. At 4.80m overall it’s powered by a Mariner Marathon 40hp that gives a maximum speed of 22.5knots and a cruising speed of 17.5knots. The seating comprises a foam core deck mattress and safety equipment is to MCA Rescue Boat Code (draft).
On a considerably larger scale, the 10.80m daughter craft for North American Shipbuilders (delivery July 2011) is based on the well-proven Phantom daughter craft already operated by a number of ERRV companies and modified for operation in Arctic waters (at up to minus 40 C.) This involved selecting only build materials specifically certified as suitable for use at these extreme temperatures. Delta also had to ensure that systems were heat protected; not only for when the craft was underway but also for when housed on the davit and exposed to severe wind chill. As an example of the specific needs for this vessel, the Radar Scanner assembly is housed within a secondary heated radome.
This 10.80m length, o.a. Delta Twinjet Phantom (Arctic spec) is propelled by twin Yanmar 6LPA-STZP (315hp) diesels that drive Hamilton HJ264 waterjets through ZF63C gearboxes. Maximum speed is 30.0 knots and cruising speed 25.0 knots. Seating includes KAB 525 Suspension Seats for three and bench seating for 12. Safety equipment is to MCA LOALINE Exemption Equipment (UKOOA) and the special Arctic environment pack includes double glazed windows, heated front windows and wipers, dual heating systems, engine heating system and an upgraded electrical package.
The recent Irish Coastguard contract, on the other hand, covers a five year programme for 12 highly specified boats including Shockwave mitigating seating for all the crew and Delta’s standard practice of terminating all wiring looms in fully waterproof housings / Deutsch connectors to ensure maximum in service reliability. These Delta 900 SUPER X Coast Guard RIBs are 9.00m overall and will be in service off the Republic of Ireland’s coast. Twin Yamaha F225B engines give a maximum speed of 40 knots and a cruising speed of 32 knots. Safety equipment is to MSO P6 Passenger Boat and other equipment is to MCA Category 3 rating.
