New Website for Great Lakes Shipping

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

November 10, 2011

Members of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway shipping industry have launched a new, one-stop website resource at www.marinedelivers.com to highlight the economic, environmental and safety benefits of the bi-national navigation system.

The redesigned site, which is aimed at both U.S. and Canadian audiences, will serve as a platform for industry news and announcements, economic statistics, safety information and environmental success stories.

The website includes:

• Latest News, features, press releases, and photos and B-roll that can be used by the media. Follow us by signing up for our RSS feed.
• A primer of the industry which includes text and video explanations of the navigation system, photos and descriptions of the types of ships that sail the Lakes and the Seaway, the cargoes carried by those ships, the ports along the system, various industry trade associations, and a glossary of industry terminology.
• The total economic benefits of Great Lakes-Seaway shipping, as well as data broken down by country, state and province. Also included in this section are six bi-national case studies of companies that depend on the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway System.
• On-going environmental initiatives within the industry are explained – from new ships to port initiatives, to the efforts of the Great Ships Initiative, Green Marine and the Ballast Water Collaborative.
• Safety aspects of the industry speak to the new technology being used by ships, training of crew members, emergency preparedness and government oversight of the industry.
• Profiles of people who work in the industry.

The website was established by Marine Delivers, a bi-national industry collaboration that includes ports, shipowners, the St. Lawrence Seaway management corporations and other stakeholders in the Great Lakes-Seaway shipping industry. The Marine Delivers initiative is administered by the American Great Lakes Ports Association in the United States, and the Chamber of Marine Commerce in Canada.
