DCNS Predicts Turning Point for Tidal Power
Tidal power is moving beyond the prototype stage for state-backed French naval shipbuilder DCNS, which is targeting a billion euros in sales from the technology in the next decade. DCNS, which is 35 percent owned by defence group Thales and 64 percent by the French state, builds warships and submarines but aims to sell its first commercial tidal power system in four years and wants to get up to 25 percent of its sales from renewable marine energies by 2025.
Alfa Laval Announced Plans for SMM 2016

Kiel Welcomes P&O’s Arcadia on Maiden Call
P&O Cruises’ Arcadia berthed June 22, for her first visit ever to the Port of Kiel, arriving just as the prestigious Kieler Woche sailing regatta marked its half-way point. More than 2,000, mainly British, passengers used the opportunity to visit northern Europe’s biggest maritime sailing event. Following her early morning arrival and to mark the occasion, a port tug provided “Arcadia” with a water fountain escort to her berth at the Ostseekai Cruise Terminal.

Crowley Adds Houston-Caribbean LCL Service
Starting July 1, Crowley Maritime Corporation will offer weekly, fixed-day, less-than-container-load (LCL) shipping services from Houston to 33 port destinations throughout the Caribbean Basin, the shipper announced today. The new logistics service is designed to enhance supply chain options for those shipping directly into the Caribbean Basin from the West and Gulf Coasts of the U.S., Crowley said.
Maersk Chairman: Company Could Be Split Up
A. P. Moller-Maersk's chairman says that the Danish shipping and oil conglomerate could be split up in several companies, after it on Thursday appointed the head of its container business as new chief executive. "The question is whether we should be a large group, or whether we should be a number of independent companies," Michael Pram Rasmussen told Danish online media Finans. "It is a possibility for us, but it is not something you just do. It would be a huge task," he said.
Ulstein Delivers for BS Offshore
The first of two service operation vessels (SOV) ordered in 2015 by Bernhard Schulte Offshore (BS Offshore) and its client Siemens from Ulstein Verft in is now completed, and was delivered on June 23, 2016. The vessel is built to the ULSTEIN SX175 design, which according to Ulstein, emphasizes optimization of the vessel’s movements in order to ensure the safe transfer of technicians and equipment for the maintenance and servicing of wind turbines.
PGS, Radio Holland Expand Service Agreement
Norwegian marine geophysical company PGS has extended its non-exclusive service agreement with Radio Holland for navigation and communication services onboard nine seismic vessels in its global fleet. Radio Holland is known in the maritime industry for its NavCom and Maintenance services through its global network of more than 80 offices. Radio Holland Norway has worked with two PGS’ vessels (Ramform Atlas and Ramform Titan) on a Service Agreement for several years already.
