GPA Signs Contract for Petrobras Vessels
Naval Architecture firm Guido Perla & Associates, Inc. (GPA) signed a contract with the Brazilian Shipyard Detroit Brasil Ltda., a subsidiary of Detroit Chile, to deliver the Basic/Class Design and Detailed / Construction Engineering for four PSV 4500. Throughout the design and engineering process, GPA worked closely with the shipyard to meet all of Petrobras’ requirements for these vessels, which will be owned and operated by Brazilian-based Starnav.
DEUTZ Encourages Innovative Ideas
This year, the City of Cologne and DEUTZ AG are awarding the seventh Nicolaus August Otto Prize for Innovation of the City of Cologne. Fugro Symphony Uses K-Master Aft Bridge Workstation
Unique new solution leads extensive delivery for new offshore construction vessel. The 130-metre long, 24-metre wide new offshore construction vessel Fugro Symphony has become the first ever to sail with Kongsberg Maritime's K-Master aft bridge workstation onboard. Built at the Bergen Group BMV yard, Fugro Symphony was delivered to its owner on 3rd May 2011 and features an extensive automation and control package, developed by Kongsberg Maritime.
Far East, South America Service Upgrade
To further improve the service quality and to cater for the market growth Maersk Line together with service partner Hamburg Süd are pleased to announce the following changes to our service network. We are currently phasing in the SAMMAX and Santa class vessels in the current ASAS service. These vessels are custom built for this trade with a nominal capacity of 7500 teu and 1700 plugs. In conjunction with this upgrade we will open a 2nd service as from July.

Alberto ALBERT to Design For MGM Lines
Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Italian firm Alberto ALBERT was awarded a project to design for Logistic firm MGM Lines s.r.l. the transport of eight items for USAN Deepwater development project belonging from SAIPEM S.A USAN UFR & OLT Project. The transport, using M/V MPP SHIELD, was done in two phases. The first voyage of 1800nm from Bayonne F to Arbatax I carrying four SPM top assembly weighing 33t each into the hold.

Davy Crockett Deconstruction
The 433-foot flat deck barge Davy Crockett continues disassembly on the Columbia River, Wash., Ore., border on May 20, 2011. Metal is cut away from the floating stern section, transferred to a decontamination barge and then to a scrap barge to be hauled away. Iconic Engines: Cummins K38-M
Most Americans will recall an iconic automobile engine from their youth. It might be an early 1950s Ford V-8 flat head or a 1970s Dodge 426 Hemi. Over the decades other engines have been added to the list. In a similar fashion mariners have identified classic marine diesels. One such is the Cummins 38-liter 2300-cu. inch engine known over the years as the KTA38. Canadian fisherman John Lenic has been running one in his 1978-built steel purse seiner Ocean Marauder.
Trawling for Scrap Metal
It looks like a typical Gulf of Mexico double-rigged shrimp trawler. However at 110 by 28-ft she will be bigger than most shrimpers. Aker Solutions Offshore Loading Systems Contracts, Brazil
Aker Solutions has won two similar contracts, together worth approx. 120 million NOK, from CQG Oil & Gas Contractors Inc. and CCI Oil & Gas Contractors Inc., for the supply of Pusnes offloading systems(TM) to two FPSOs in the Brazilian market. The offloading systems will be installed on the two FPSOs P-58 and P-62, which are being converted and built for Petrobras. The two FPSOs are spread moored FPSOs, and will use the field proven Pusnes offloading system(TM) at both bow and aft ends.
BOEMRE Report of Platform Fire Investigation
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) today released the findings of its investigation into a fire that occurred Sept. 2, 2010, on Mariner Energy Inc.’s, Vermilion 380 A oil and natural gas production platform located approximately 102 miles off the coast of Louisiana. A BOEMRE Accident Investigation Panel concluded that the fire was caused by the collapse of a fire tube located inside of the platform’s Heater-Treater.
