U.S. Navy Assumes Command of CTF 152

Rear Adm. Allen G. Myers relieved Italian Navy Rear Adm. Emilio Foltzer as Combined Task Force (CTF) 152 commander Dec. 3 during a change of control ceremony aboard ITS Etna (A 5326). CTF 152 is responsible for conducting maritime security operations (MSO) in the central and southern Persian Gulf. During the ceremony, Myers stressed the importance of regional maritime partnerships. “Between supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and continuing the mission of maritime security operations, cooperation with regional partners is imperative,” said Myers. “I believe we all recognize that working together as a fully integrated coalition is key to our success in achieving security in international waters.” Foltzer said he is confident CTF 152 will continue to make a positive impact on security and stability in the region under Myers’ supervision.

“Today, CTF 152 returns back to the U.S. Navy under the sage leadership of [Rear] Adm. Myers,” said Foltzer. “No gaps will occur in the continuity of our service as coalition partners.” Deputy Combined Force Maritime Component Commander, Royal Navy Commodore Keith Winstanley stressed the importance of conducting MSO in the region. “The innocent who sail the waters, people who live in the region and citizens of the world rely on coalition patrols to provide security at sea,” said Winstanley. “Through maritime security operations, our forces contribute vigilance, dedication and professionalism that build a promising future." The Italian navy assumed command of CTF 152 June 28 and marked the first non-U.S. command of the task force. Coalition forces conduct MSO under international maritime conventions to ensure security and safety in international waters so that all commercial shipping can operate freely while transiting the region.
