A&P Tyne to Convert Ferry

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

July 31, 2003

A&P Tyne Limited has signed a contract with Mercy Ships Limited to convert a former Danish rail ferry now named Africa Mercy to a hospital ship for service in Africa. The conversion will take place over an 18-month period and will include the upgrading of the existing vessel, to carry some 400 persons and a hospital facility with 6 operating theatres; 78 hospital beds and an intensive care unit. Dave Skentelbery, Managing Director Shipcare & Projects for A&P said "this is a particularly demanding project and follows on from our recent success with the !Gariep for De Beers. Most importantly it opens up a new market for us in the sphere of passenger ship conversions that is in line with our strategy.
Trite but true, the path to decarbonization has no ‘silver bullet’ solution.
