GL Opens Dalian Office

With an open day and a ceremonial dinner Germanischer Lloyd has opened its new office facilities in Dalian last week. More than 150 representatives of new building and repair shipyards, ship owners and manufacturers of materials and components from Dalian and the surrounding area attended the event hosted by Station Manager Tian Tao.

Vice director of Tian Jin Xingang Shipyard, Mr. Pan Yan Zhong, congratulated Germanischer Lloyd Dalian on the occasion and highlighted the technical support and service orientation the classification society has provided since the beginning of the cooperation almost ten years ago.

Founded in 1998, Germanischer Lloyd's station in the North East of China has now grown to a team of 20 surveyors and supporting staff. Twelve shipyards in the area are working on newbuildings with class Germanischer Lloyd. In addition, activities in the certification of materials and components are steadily increasing.

Germanischer Lloyd continues to extend its strong network in China serving shipyards, supply industry and shipping companies. More than 350 container ships, multi-purpose vessels, bulk carriers and oil/chemical tankers are on order at almost 50 shipyards. Germanischer Lloyd is present in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Jiangyin, Nanjing, Wuhan, Kaohsiung, Dalian and Ningbo. Shanghai is the location for the Country Office and the Area Office China, the Approval Services East Asia and the Division Office East Asia. In total, Germanischer Lloyd employs a workforce of over 175 in the "Greater China" region.
