Master Plan to Develop Indian Ports

 Based on the present traffic and cargo scenario of Major Ports, a Master Plan has been prepared for expansion of port capacity, which includes a number of new ports.

 
Sagar Island (West Bengal):  Public Investment Board (PIB) has appraised the project subject to the condition that state Government shall ensure possession of the land is available to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)  or any other Agency providing road connectivity and to railways/agency providing rail connectivity. 
 
Projected Traffic is to be around 3.5 MTPA in 2020 increasing to around 27 MTPA in 2035.
 
Enayam near Colachel, (Tamilnadu): Detailed Project Report (DPR) is under preparation. The Port is proposed to be developed under the Landlord model. Projected traffic is around 127.05 MTPA by 2030.
 
Major Port proposed to be developed Vadhavan, Dahanu, (Maharashtra): Detailed Project Report is in progress. Environment Impact Assessment are in progress as per Terms of Reference (TOR) approved by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
 
Coastal Impact Study on Fisheries also commented through Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI). The Port is proposed to be developed under the Landlord model.
 
The Government proposes to develop non-major/small/medium ports in order to boost coastal shipping in the country.
 
Financial support is being provided to Major Ports/ Non-Major Ports/State Governments for creation of infrastructure to promote movement of cargo/passengers by sea/National Waterways under central sector scheme ‘Assistance to Coastal Shipping Berths’. 
 
This Central Sector Scheme has been merged with Sagarmala Programme with the approval of Ministry of Finance with effect from 06/9/2016.
 
Five projects of coastal berth have already been sanctioned at a cost of Rs.190 Crore with central share of Rs.105 crore and proposal of worth Rs.480 Crore for 29 projects are submitted by the State Govts.The State Governments are taking active interest in the scheme.
