Jan de Nul Dredging Chooses Again for No Limit

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

November 26, 2012

For the third time in a row Jan de Nul Dredging chooses for No Limit Ships Shipyards.

After first having bought two survey vessels, they now opted for a No Limit 1640 Crewtender with thirteen passenger seats. For the next five years the vessel is expected to be deployed for various projects in European waters and will be sailing under Belgian flag. At the customer’s request the vessel will be constructed in such a way that it will need only minor adjustments at a later stage to make it suitable as a survey vessel.

Uniformity and proven qualities offer important advantages

‘Good experiences with No Limit vessels and uniformity within the fleet are decisive reasons for Jan de Nul Dredging in making this choice’, says managing director Dick Westera. ‘When you have already two No Limit vessels, it is a major advantage for their own maintenance services and their crews that a similar sort of vessel will be added to the fleet.’ A further advantage is that No Limit Shipyards stand for sturdy, strong and seaworthy ships capable of sailing safely on the high seas under all weather conditions. ‘It is the combination of proven qualities and the application of new technologies. The tube for instance, ensures good sailing characteristics under heavy weather conditions and big waves, which improves the comfort and safety during transit and the transfer of passengers. The tube of this vessel is filled with foam to make it easier to bring it about another vessel.’

Caterpillar offers an excellent service

‘It goes without saying that the customers are free to choose the type of engine they want’, says Westera. ‘Jan de Nul Dredging has good experiences with Caterpillar and consequently this vessel will be equipped with a Caterpillar C18, 500 Kilowatts engine. Caterpillar’s outstanding service network covers the whole world, which is of the utmost importance in this sector where vessels have to be deployed almost continuously. Moreover Jan de Nul Dredging has already a large number of vessels equipped with Caterpillar engines. Again the proven qualities and uniformity within the fleet are the facts that count.’

Orders and new developments

In addition to this order, having a sales value of 1,5 to 2 million Euro, No Limit Ships Shipyards is now working on the construction of a specially adapted No Limit 1640 survey vessel for a German company and the completion of five 22-meter tenders for the Dutch pilot services. The order for the five tenders is a project, which will be carried out in cooperation with Barkmeijer Shipyards. The first two vessels will be completed this year. The last three will be completed next year.

The yard produces survey vessels and crewtenders in various sizes. The series of vessels with the characteristic tube are derived from the No Limit 1640. Earlier this year its successor the No Limit 1940 has been completed. Also plans have been presented for the construction of the biggest vessel so far, with a length of 24.40 meter and accommodation for eight crewmembers. This vessel has been specifically designed to operate farther off shore and to stay at sea for a longer period of time.

Strong organization

No Limit Ships B.V. was founded in 1996. The organization has now 20 employees on the payroll and, if required, uses a number of subcontractors during the completing phase, which increases the production capacity considerably. In the last five years the turnover has more than doubled and also this year will show a growth compared to last year’s turnover.

The crewtender will be built according to Lloyds register regulations.
