GL Maritime Software gets its first order from China for its hull integrity management software.

One of the many ship management tools developed by GL Maritime Software, the maritime software business of the GL Group, GL HullManager is a software and service package for ship owners, managers and operators. It supports the complete hull integrity process, from inspections to reporting and condition assessments of tanks, cargo holds and coatings, throughout its entire lifecycle by means of crew inspections and thickness measurements.

The use of a vessel-specific 3D model enables visualization and assessment of the hull's structural condition. The crew can mark any coating or structural failures on the 3D model, such as marking an individual finding or adding a photo and description, which can then be assessed by superintendents onshore. "This allows the shipping companiesto prove to charterers that their ships are maintained to high standards, and in addition reduces maintenance efforts, the cost of repairs, and drydocking or offhire times," said Dr. Buessow, head of GL's Maritime Software business.

"Leveraging GL HullManager, we expect our ship maintenance can be conducted in a more cost-effective and transparent fashion," said Mr. Mao Jianliang, General Manager of Shanghai COSCO.

Since its introduction onto the market in 2011, GL HullManager has been installed onboard more than 150 vessels of all kinds worldwide and in their owners' onshore offices.
