Larry Rigdon, President and CEO of Rigdon Marine, announced the signing of a long-term contract to provide offshore vessel services in the Gulf of Mexico to Terra Seismic Services, a Norwegian oil and gas seismic company.

Terra Seismic Services is the first seismic services company to deploy a unique Four Component (4C) Ocean Bottom Cable (OBC) data acquisition system for the offshore environment. The system also offers improved and automated in-sea systems handling techniques. These new systems allow Terra Seismic Services to provide oil and gas companies enhanced state-of-the-art seismic data more cost effectively. Terra Seismic Services will employ the ground breaking “VectorSeis Ocean” recording and communication technology system as part of its advanced data acquisition methods.

Terra Seismic Services CEO Michael Scott said, “We plan to drive the 4C Ocean Bottom Cable (OBC) market by enabling our oil company customers to obtain the imaging benefits that result when high quality seismic data is acquired from the seabed at economically attractive rates, in the Gulf of Mexico, North Sea and elsewhere in the world.”

“We are extremely pleased that after surveying the available offshore vessels in the Gulf of Mexico, Terra Seismic Services chose Rigdon Marine as a service partner for its innovative seismic work,” said Larry Rigdon. “The design improvements incorporated in the GPA 640 PVSs include an enormous cargo deck platform for the installation of Terra Seismic’s technologically advanced equipment and the capability of providing the electrical power required by the seismic equipment from the ships generating capacity. In addition, the dynamic positioning system provides total redundancy allowing for any system failure to be bypassed without loss of control during seismic operations.”

The Rigdon Marine “Orleans-class” offshore vessels are 210’ by 54’ by 19’ diesel-electric PSVs with a dynamic positioning class 2 (DP-2) certification and a modern streamline hull designed for fuel efficiency with top speeds of 13 knots fully loaded and 15 knots in light conditions. The vessels are fully classed by the American Bureau of Shipping for international operations.

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, with operations in New Orleans, Louisiana, Rigdon Marine is a U.S. flagged vessel operator and provider of high capacity platform supply vessels for the Gulf of Mexico.
