DoD Award Dredging, Ship Maintenance, Charter Contracts

US Department of Defense informs of placement of contracts for Chesapeake Bay dredging, dry-docking of USS Pearl Harbor, and charter of surface escort vessels. Details as follows:

1. Dredging
Norfolk Dredging Company, Chesapeake, Virginia, has been awarded $18,784,248 for a dredging requirement for Baltimore harbor and channels.

Maintenance dredging will take place in various channel sections in the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. Fiscal 2014 operations and maintenance (Army) funds in the amount of $18,784,248 were obligated at the time of the award. Work will be performed in Baltimore, Maryland, with an estimated completion date of Feb. 28, 2015. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore, Maryland, is the contracting activity (W912DR-14-C-0031).

2. Drydocking
General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Co., San Diego, California, is being awarded a $139,953,434 modification to previously awarded cost-plus-award-fee contract N00024-08-C-4410 for USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) fiscal 2014 extended dry-dock phased maintenance availability.

DoD explains that an extended dry-dock phased maintenance availability includes the planning and execution of depot-level maintenance, alterations, and modifications that will update and improve the ship's military and technical capabilities. Work will be performed in San Diego, California, and is expected to be completed by August 2015. The Southwest Regional Maintenance Center, San Diego, California, is the contracting activity.

3. Surface Escort Vessel Charter
Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC, Covington, Louisiana, is being issued a $19,754,900 modification under a previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract (N00033-08-C-2007) to exercise a 180-day option to extend services for the long-term time charter of U.S.-built, U.S.-flagged, contractor-owned and -operated surface escort vessels HOS Black Powder, HOS Westwind, HOS Eagle View, and HOS Arrowhead.

These vessels are used to escort U.S. Navy assets transiting into and out of U.S. Navy ports. Work will be performed on the U.S. East coast (50 percent) and U.S. West coast (50 percent), and is expected to be completed by February 2015.
