The Erma First Group has completed the acquisition of Ecochlor, broadening its range of ballast water treatment systems (BWTS), future-proof decarbonisation solutions and related services.The acquisition consolidates the companyâs status as one of the worldâs largest BWTS providers.Ecochlorâs BWTS portfolio comprises a filtration- and ClO2-based system and two versions of the EcoOne⢠solution. The first is a filterless system that uses ClO2 alone and consumes just 10â20 kilowatts of power even at very-high flow rates.
Ecochlor Harmonizes USCG and IMO Type Approvals
The provider of ballast water treatment solutions for ship builders Ecochlor announcef the complete harmonization of United States Coast Guard (USCG) Type Approval to their International Maritime Organization (IMO) Type Approval for their line of Ecochlor Ballast Water Treatment Systems.During Ecochlorâs USCG Type Approval amendment process, minor updates and improvements were made to aspects such as documentation, available filter models, and control system software, said a press release from the company.Once the USCG Type Approval amendment was complete, Ecochlor worked with DNV GL as the Recognized Organization for the Norwegian Maritime Authority to harmonize all aspects of the USCG approved system with the existing IMO Type Approval.

Scorpio Orders Ecochlor BWTS for 55 Tankers
Shipowner Scorpio Tankers has signed a deal to retrofit roughly half of its product carrier fleet with ballast water treatment systems (BWTS).The deal will see U.S. based BWTS manufacturer Ecochlor, Inc. supply 55 systems for Scorpio's product carriers ranging between 38,000 to more than 100,000 DWT. Angelicoussis Shipping to Retrofit BWTS on 36 Ships

U.S. Coast Guard Accepts Nine BWTS as AMS
Followers of the Ballast Water Treatement System (BWTS) situation (ie. presumably anyone reading this publication) were heartened last month when the U.S Coast Guard announced its acceptance of nine BWTS as Alternate Management Systems (AMS), helping to finally bring some clarity to ship owners, yards and suppliers. On April 15, 2013, the USCG announced the acceptance of the ballast water treatment systems as AMS in compliance with the serviceâs March 2012 final rule for Standards for Living Organisms in Shipsâ Ballast Water Discharged (SLOSBWD) in U.S. waters.
