Schottel's Largest EcoPeller Shipped
Propulsion systems manufacturer Schottel said Thursday that the largest Schottel EcoPeller ever manufactured was recently shipped from the Wismar production facility in Germany. The five-bladed SRE 700 features a propeller diameter of 3,600 mm and an input power of 3.2 MW. "Thanks to its compact design, the integrated LE-Drive (“embedded L-Drive”) allows more freedom in vessel design," Schottel said."In addition to this, it offers extremely low vibration and noise levels. SCHOTTEL to Supply EcoPellers to Norled
SCHOTTEL has won a contract from Ada Shipyard in Turkey to supply propulsion units for two double-ended Ro-Pax ferries. As part of the deal, the German propulsion manufacturer will provide a total of four SCHOTTEL Rudder EcoPellers (SRE) for the LMG 60 DE design vessels ordered recently by Norwegian ferry operator Norled.The ferries’ main propulsion consists of two SCHOTTEL EcoPellers type SRE 270 (810 kW each) with 1.85 m diameter fixed pitch propellers (one at each end of the ferry). Each of the azimuth thrusters is driven by two bio-diesel engines through a twin-in-single-out gearbox.

SCHOTTEL's Mechanical Hybrid Propulsion Solution
In a close collaboration with Svitzer of Denmark, SCHOTTEL has developed a new hybrid propulsion concept. The new concept is based on the recent SCHOTTEL Y-Hybrid thruster technology and connects a port and starboard mounted azimuth thruster in a vessel with each other. This makes it possible to drive two thrusters with either one of the main engines. The companies are now discussing a pilot project to retrofit an existing tug with the new mechanical hybrid technology. This will transform the direct driven vessel into a greener and more cost-efficient vessel.
Schottel Gets Eight Ferry Newbuild Order for EcoPeller
Schottel has been selected to fit eight newly-built ferries with the new Schottel Rudder EcoPeller (SRE, EcoPeller) for two of Norway’s leading ferry lines. In close cooperation with the customers and Multi Maritime, the Norwegian ship designer in charge of the projects, the EcoPeller was chosen for three Fjord1 ferries with 2xSRE 340 CP each and five Torghatten ferries with 5x2 SRE 560 CP. “Our new ferry designs are the result of continuous efficiency optimization. Every potential efficiency increase and every optimization of the energy consumption in terms of design, components and equipment has been exploited. The EcoPeller was chosen because we expect that it fully supports our targets,” said Gjermund Johannessen, CEO at Multi Maritime.

SCHOTTEL Debuts EcoPeller with High-torque Gears
Propulsion and steering systems manufacturer SCHOTTEL has unveiled its new EcoPeller (SRE), which it said offers improved efficiency and robustness. Playing a key role here is the new HTG (High Torque Gear) gearbox technology developed and patented by SCHOTTEL. According to SCHOTTEL, HTG is a highly-efficient, robust and reliable gearbox with an ideal gearing geometry. It features low maintenance requirements, reduces servicing costs and also allows streamlined housings for improved hydrodynamic properties. The HTG enables bevel gears of the same dimensions to transmit up to 15 percent higher drive torque with the same safety margins required by the classification societies, SCHOTTEL said.
