Guangzhou Port Group’s e-tug to Sport Schottel Propulsion

SCHOTTEL will equip Guangzhou Port Group’s latest e-tug with two RudderPropellers type SRP 360 in the LE-Drive variant. MOL Ups Offshore Wind Game with New Deals

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a basic contract for the marine transport of offshore wind components with JFE Engineering Corporation, while also agreeing to build a new module carrier vessel with Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering.This will be first coastal module carrier in Japan to transport components for offshore wind turbine foundation components, according to MOL. Fairbanks Morse Defense Acquires Samtan Engineering Corporation

Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD), a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management, has acquired single-source metalworking supplier Samtan Engineering Corporation based in Malden, Mass. MODEC Confirms Its First FPSO Order in Guyana

Japan's MODEC said Monday it would proceed with engineering, procurement, and construction on the Uaru FPSO vessel following a final investment decision on the Uaru offshore oil project by ExxonMobil in Guyana last month.The Uaru FPSO is named ‘Errea Wittu’, which means ‘abundance,’ and will be the fifth offshore FPSO in Guyana and the first to be supplied by MODEC. Japan's JFE to Invest $363,3M in New Offshore Wind Monopile Plants

Japan's JFE Engineering Corporation is set to build a factory for the construction of monopile foundations and transition pieces for the offshore wind industry. The company also has plans to build jacket-type foundations in the future."The monopile foundation consists of a transition piece for connecting the monopile as a support and the wind turbine tower and is an extremely thick, large-diameter, long super-heavy object, which is difficult to manufacture at existing factories in Japan.

Jereh Builds 10 LNG Fuelling Stations in Russia

Chinese oil and gas company Jereh has announced that it has won a contract to construct 10 new LNG fueling stations in Russia.According to a statement from the company, it won the bid for 10 LNG fueling stations in Russia, which is believed to be the biggest order for LNG fueling within Russian market till now.Jereh is going to provide integrated services for this project covering modular design, procurement, manufacture, as well as commissioning. Its total fueling capacity is estimated to reach 500 million liter one year, which will strongly bolster local LNG supply.The whole project will be delivered in this September and put into use a month later, in October, it said.Russia holds the largest natural gas reserves in the world and is the second-largest producer of dry natural gas.

NorShipping 2019: A “Koselig” Event

"Koselig" is a Norwegian adjective used to describe situations that give a feeling of comfort, warmth, and relaxation. The NorShipping exhibition and conference, one of the largest in northern Europe, could definitely be described as koselig. Occurring in Oslo, Norway between June 4-7, 2019, the conference featured close to 1,000 exhibitors from around the world. With the prominently featured Blue Economy Hall, terms such as marine sustainability and environmental ocean awareness held the center stage at a number of the events. In true Norwegian fashion, most of the major press announcements were delivered in semi-intimate gathers with copious amounts coffee by maritime CEOs and VPs who enjoyed being called by their first names.

U.S. Coast Guard Receives Two More BWMS Applications

Coast Guard Marine Safety Center (MSC) has received its 11th and 12th applications for Ballast Water Management System type approval. The 11th application was received March 29, 2018, for the BallastAce system, manufactured by JFE Engineering Corporation. The 12th application was received March 30, 2018, for the GloEn-Patrol system, manufactured by Panasia Co., Ltd. MSC will review the applications for compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations in 46 CFR 162.060. Once it has been determined that each application meets the requirements, MSC will issue each company a type approval certificate. BWMS type approval applications and approval certificates are posted on MSC’s website.

MOL Research on Marine Rotary Machineries

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced plans to work with Asahi Kasei Engineering Corporation (AEC) on a project to verify predictive detection of abnormalities in marine rotary machineries using vibrating sensors. The research will focus on the use of vibrating sensors to monitor the condition of key auxiliaries, such as pumps or purifiers, on a car carrier and VLCC that are under construction, using analysis software. The participants expect this project to create not only a standalone onboard monitoring system, but also to allow incorporation of data into the "Fleet Monitor" platform of real-time communication between ship and shore as a part of the Ship IoT system, allowing analysis of abnormalities as soon as they occur.

Kipevu Oil Terminal to Be Relocated

The Kipevu Oil Terminal at Mombasa Port will be relocated early next year, to Dongo Kundu area, as a result of the ongoing capacity expansion program, the Kenya Ports Authority announced. The new oil terminal is expected to have a capacity to accommodate four vessels of up to 200,000 DWT. The project also involves building new cargo handling facilities with both subsea and land based pipelines and four berths capable of loading/discharging crude oil, HFO, DPK-aviation, AGO-Diesel and PMS-Petrol. The other element is the topside, whose initial implementation will be for three berths but layout will recognize the need for implementation of the fourth berth at a later date.

China Equipments to Yamal LNG

The first shipment of a ‘core kit’ for Russia’s Yamal LNG project has set sail for northern Russia from the Chinese port of Qingdao. China's first batch of two air cooled condensing modules of LNG project are the biggest and heaviest kits being used for the project. They are set to arrive at the construction site in late June, says China Central Television. Yamal is a liquefied natural gas project located deep in the Russian Arctic. It is expected to start operating next year. 85 percent of the liquefied natural gas will be transported to the Asia Pacific market. It is China's first export of LNG core modules, indicating that China has entered into the international high-end oil and gas equipment market.

China Gets 40-Year Rights at Pakistani Port

China has been allowed operation rights for 40 years at a port in Gwadar, a planned deep-water harbor in Pakistan. This move will give China access to Gulf countries, and the possibility of building a naval base on the Arabian Sea in future, sources revealed. Chinese Overseas Port Holdings Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering Corporation under the State Council, has been granted the right to operate Gwadar for 40 years. Infrastructure construction is almost complete and the port could be put into complete usage by the end of the year, Dostain Khan Jamaldini, chairman of the Gwadar Port Authority, said. It could function as a vibrant economic hub connecting China and Pakistan.

MOL Installs Ballast Water Treatment System on VLCC

In front of the VLCC Libra Trader, which recently had a new ballast water treatment system installed, representatives of the vessel’s management company, MOL Tankship Management (Asia) Pte Ltd., and the shipyard pose for a commemorative shot.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. announced completion of work to install a ballast water treatment system on the very large crude oil carrier (VLCC) Libra Trader at Keppel Shipyard in Singapore. On January 10, the company announced plans to install the system on a VLCC ahead of IMO installation compulsion. MOL is the first Japanese shipping company to install such a system for existing VLCC. Keppel Shipyard has timely delivered the vessel as committed and Libra Trader has already returned to service, and the ballast water treatment system will be tested and adjusted during operation.
