Navios Names Two Directors

Monaco-based seaborne shipping company Navios Maritime Containers  announced the appointment of Stefan Kuch and Vasilios Mouyis to its Board of Directors.The owner and operator of container ships informed that Kuch has over 32 years of experience in finance and ship finance, having served in senior leadership positions in the shipping division of Commerzbank AG, one of Germany’s leading financial institutions.He also served as Managing Director of Hanseatic Ship Asset Management GmbH, a vessel-owning company within the Commerzbank Group.

Oldendorff Readies for Ship Recycling Regs

The dry bulk operator Oldendorff Carriers has entered into an agreement with GSR Services and Korean Register (KR) for the development and certification of Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) for their fleet for meeting tight EU - deadlines.From the end of 2020 onwards, the EU-Ship Recycling Regulation requires that all EU-visiting or EU-flagged ships have a certified IHM on board. Two Bangladeshi Workers Killed in Shipbreaking Yard

Two Bangladeshi workers were killed Monday in a fire that started in the engine room of an end-of-life tanker being dismantled at a shipbreaking yard in Chittagong, Bangladesh, the NGO Shipbreaking PlatformMd Jamil, 23 years old cutter man, and Bipul lost their lives while scrapping the ship GREEK WARRIOR (IMO 9191412) at Shagorika Ship Breaking Yard. According to local media, Jamil was burned and rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. He died before reaching the hospital.

CMA CGM Aims for Ceva Logistics Breakeven in 2019

Orca AI Looks to End Ship Collisions

Orca AI launched to prevent maritime collisions by providing AI-backed navigational solutions for the shipping industry, backed by a $2.6 million seed round led by MizMaa Ventures and including funding from Ray Carriers and The Dock.Collisions and other maritime incidents have been on the rise for the past several years, jumping from 2,000 in 2011 to an estimated 4,000 in 2017. The vast majority of maritime collisions occur in congested waterways, often in areas near ports or in narrow waterways. Current navigation tools are less effective in these situations and rely on the crew’s judgment to navigate safely, providing room for human error which is the cause of more than 75% of collisions.Orca AI’s system is designed for crowded waterways and the harshest, lowest visibility, scenarios.

744 Ships Scrapped in 2018

744 large ocean-going commercial vessels were sold to the scrap yards in 2018, out of which 518 were broken down on South Asia beaches, accounting for a record-breaking 90.4% of the gross tonnage dismantled globally.According to new data released by the NGO Shipbreaking Platform,  at least 34 workers lost their lives when breaking apart the global fleet. TMS Cardiff Gas Orders Four LNG Carriers at Hyundai Heavy Industries

Greek gas carrier owner and operator TMS Cardiff Gas has signed additional contracts with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) & Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) of Korea for the construction of 174,000 cubic meter LNG carriers with XDF propulsion.
