GasLog: LNG Demand Grew 9% in 2018

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is expected to have increased by 9%, from 288 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) in 2017 to 313 mtpa in 2018, said GasLog.The Monaco-based owner, operator and manager of LNG carriers said in a stock exchange announcement that China’s LNG imports increased by approximately 16 mtpa, or 41%, to 54 mtpa in 2018, driven mainly by continued coal-to-gas switching in the industrial, commercial and residential sectors.South Korea, Pakistan, Thailand and Mexico also experienced strong growth in LNG imports during 2018.

Sentinel Midstream Mulls Offshore Terminal

Dallas-based oil and gas company Sentinel Midstream is planning to develop a deepwater crude oil export terminal, located near Freeport, Texas. The completed facility will be capable of fully loading Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) vessels.Texas GulfLink will include an onshore terminal with up to 18 million barrels of storage, an offshore 42-in. pipeline, and a manned offshore platform to facilitate port operations with two  Catenary Anchor Leg Mooring (CALM) Single Point Mooring (SPM) buoys.

New Pilot Boat Delivered to Brazos Pilots Association

Louisiana-based shipbuilder Metal Shark has delivered a custom welded-aluminum pilot boat to the Brazos Pilots Association in Freeport, Texas.The new vessel, “Brazos Pilot,” is a 64’ x 19’ Defiant-class monohull pilot boat designed by Metal Shark and built at the company’s Franklin, Louisiana shipyard. Kingston Freeport Terminal Ltd (KFTL), a Jamaican consortium formed by French global terminals operator CMA CGM and its majority-owned subsidiary Terminal Link, said it recorded the best performance ever in the history of the port of Kingston in terms of container moves.Kingston Freeport, which has leased Kingston Container Terminal, KCT, under a 30-year concession, said a total of 3,304 moves were handled within 24 hours of operation on the Post-Panamax vessel Cosco Beijing, which arrived at the terminal on January 24.

Brazos Pilot Association President Captain Billy Burns said its newest boat, Brazos Pilot, is a vessel tailored to fit the job and provide the pilot association with performance dependability and the safety systems integration to fulfill their maritime mission.The 64 x 19-ft. Global LNG Production to Grow 11% This Year

ExxonMobil Signs LNG Tie-up Pact with Uniper

Coast Guard Rescues 31 From Disabled Boat North of Bimini

The Coast Guard rescued 31 Haitians from the disabled pleasure craft, Summer Art, Sunday approximately 9 miles north of Bimini, Bahamas.At approximately 5 a.m., Coast Guard 7th District watchstanders received a report of a disabled vessel with 31 people aboard approximately 9 miles north of Bimini. Watchstanders authorized the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew and diverted the Coast Guard Cutter Bernard C. Webber (WPC-1101) crew to the scene.

Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) held a naming ceremony at its Sakaide shipyard for the new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier owned jointly by NYK Line and JERA.The ceremony was attended by Hendrik Gordenker, chairman of JERA Co. Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. held a christening ceremony for a next-generation LNG (liquefied natural gas) carrier under construction for TRANS PACIFIC SHIPPING 5 LTD., a joint venture of JERA Co., Inc. (JERA) and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL). The new ship, named Nohshu Maru, is the fourth vessel of the latest model "Sayaringo STaGE" type, featuring significant improvements in both LNG carrying capacity and fuel performance due to the adoption of a more efficient hull structure and an innovative hybrid propulsion system.

Uniper, Mitsui OSK Lines Press Ahead German FSRU

German energy group Uniper and Japanese shipping group Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) have agreed to intensify efforts on the Wilhelmshaven FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit) project in Germany, which could start up as early as H2 2022.The FSRU has a planned send-out capacity of 10 bcm/a and liquefied natural (LNG) storage capacity of 263,000 m³, said a press release from Uniper, the international energy company with operations in more than 40 countries.The project benefits from the existing site in Wilhelmshaven where required infrastructure is already in place.

Trafigura Strikes 3-year LNG Deal from U.S. Project

Commodity trader Trafigura on Tuesday said it agreed to buy 0.5 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually over three years from the Freeport LNG export plant in the United States.   Deliveries from Freeport LNG Marketing will begin in 2020 from its facility on Quintana Island near Freeport, Texas, Trafigura said.   The deal builds on Trafigura's 15-year, 1 million tonne per annum agreement with Cheniere Energy for supply from its Sabine Pass plant in Louisiana, which was announced in January.   Reporting by Oleg Vukmanovic

Freeport of Riga Joins Cruise Lines International Association

Continuing its active work on attracting more cruise ships and, respectively, more cruise passengers to Riga, the Freeport of Riga Authority has become a member of CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association), the world’s largest cruise industry association, said a press release. Tokyo Gas Takes First LNG Cargo from Cove Point

Japan received its first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) on Monday from Dominion Energy Inc's newly completed Cove Point export plant, the beginning of a jump in imports from the United States by the world's biggest buyer of the fuel.The docking of the tanker LNG Sakura at Tokyo Gas Co's Negishi terminal near Tokyo is another marker of shifting global energy flows as the United States ramps up exports of gas and oil from shale formations.The cargo is the first of 2.2 million tonnes of LNG a year Japanese companies are purchasing under long-term contracts from Cove Point in Maryland.

McDermott Closing CB&I Deal

Offshore engineering firm McDermott International Inc will close its acquisition of Chicago Bridge and Iron Co NV on Thursday, creating an integrated onshore and offshore services group that will expand its presence in the Middle East.McDermott's offshore engineering and construction work will combine with CB&I's onshore skills including liquefied natural gas (LNG) and power plants.
