Normand Clipper Secures Long-term Contract

Norwegian ship owner Solstad Offshore said it has been awarded a long-term contract with Global Offshore, part of the Global Marine Group for CSV Normand ClipperThe contract will commence in the first quarter of 2020 and have a duration of three years firm plus five years options thereafter.Global Offshore will utilize the vessel to support cable lay operations within the renewable energy and oil and gas sectors.

A second service operations vessel for Bibby Marine Services has been launched and christened during a ceremony at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania, the shipbuilder announced Friday.The new vessel, Bibby WaveMaster Horizon, will begin maintenance work on two EnBW and Enbridge-owned wind farms in the German North Sea – Hohe See and Albatros – for Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and EnBW, upon delivery later this year.Damen said it developed the SOV 9020 vessel design through close consultation with the offshore renewables industry.

UOS Completes Acquisition of UOS Support and Hartmann Offshore

German offshore industry service provider United Offshore Support (UOS) announced that it has completed its acquisition of the commercial and technical-nautical management businesses of both UOS United Offshore Support and Hartmann Offshore.Since the acquisition was announced in July 2018, the management and staff of both companies have been working to bring the two organisations under the UOS brand, which is based in Leer, Germany.UOS is led by Chief Executive Howard Woodcock, who joined the company in August 2018.

DNV GL: First Class Guideline for Additive Manufacturing

DNV GL has published the first classification guideline for the use of additive manufacturing (AM) in the maritime and oil amid gas industries. The guideline is designed to help manufacturers and sub-suppliers of materials, parts and components, service suppliers and end users adopting AM technologies, by ensuring that the parts or components created by an AM process and the materials from which they are created have the same level of quality assurance as traditionally manufactured products.

Sovcomflot Reports Loss for 9M 2017

The first 30 hectares of Offshore Center Rotterdam have been completed. PUMA, a project organisation created by a partnership between Dutch hydraulic engineering firms Koninklijke Boskalis Westminster NV and Van Oord NV that focuses specifically on the expansion of the Maasvlakte site, processed 6 million m3 of sand in four months to complete the work. Only 2 million m3 of sand are now needed to raise the other 40 hectares to the required level. There is considerable interest in the centre. The Port of Rotterdam expects the first companies to establish themselves on the site in 2019.

In 2015, Ulstein Group recorded revenues of $279.4 million and an operating loss of $11.5 million. The business areas Design & Solutions and Power & Control both recorded profits. The downturn in the offshore sector and a tricky market has to be met with adaptation and innovation, according to CEO Gunvor Ulstein. ‘These are tough times. The group’s results for 2015 were weak as a result of lower utilization of capacity and the generally challenging market situation in our business areas. Sturrock Dry Dock Puts Operation Phakisa into Action

The Sturrock Dry Dock in the Port of Cape Town has been a hive of activity recently with a number of interesting vessels berthing at the facility for repairs and maintenance. The mining vessel, mv Debmar Atlantic, owned by De Beers Marine Namibia (Pty) Ltd, recently underwent routine work at the dry dock, carried out by contracting firms. Built in 1978, mv Debmar Atlantic features its own diamond processing plant on board the vessel. During the mining process gravel, bearing diamonds, is airlifted from the seabed to the vessel.
