Indonesian shipping company Meratus unveiled SMARCO-Smart Container, a technology that leverages advanced sensors and cloud-based tech for efficient and secure container shipping. Using IoT sensors, GPS tracking, and cloud-based technology, SMARCO is desgined to providefull visibility and control of container shipments, including real-time monitoring of movement, speed, shock, intrusion, and temperature changes.After arrival at the destination, customers receive a comprehensive report on  the shipment process.

Inmarsat, a mobile satellite communications services provider, will roll out an Internet-of-Things (IoT) solution to more than 60 of Saudi-based Zamil Offshore's vessels in the Gulf area.The solution - powered by Fleet Connect and Fleet Data delivered through Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress - will allow Zamil to identify, trial and select the best solutions to meet vessel performance expectations set by its charterer, Saudi Aramco. ABS has been announced as the industry collaborator to build the Maritime Testbed of Shipboard Operational Technology (MariOT) Systems. The project is led by iTrust, Center for Research in Cyber Security at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), in collaboration with ABS and Singapore Polytechnic’s Centre of Excellence in Maritime Safety (CEMS).The MariOT will support a host of cybersecurity activities to meet the challenges in the maritime industry’s push towards digitalization. Fleet Data from Inmarsat has received Approval in Principle (AiP) from leading classification society Bureau Veritas.This is a major milestone for the maritime industry’s leading secure sensor data and Internet of Things (IoT) platform. MAN Energy Solutions introduced its new digital platform, MAN CEON, designed to collect and evaluate operating and sensor data, enabling real-time monitoring of marine or power-plant engines, turbines and compressors. "MAN CEON is the new backbone of our developing digital-service business," said Per Hansson, Head of Digital and Strategy at MAN Energy Solutions. "All of our machines, whether engines or turbomachinery, are equipped with hundreds of sensors that transmit data constantly. While conservatism is a hallmark of maritime, research from Inmarsat finds that IoT may be helping turn the tech tide by delivering new solutions that ease rather than complicate compliance.With environmental imperatives mounting, shipping’s hesitation concerning new technology has been laid bare in an Inmarsat Research Program report that includes data on how far the industry sees IoT-based solutions as a gateway to sustainability.
